Asami made arrangements with one of the countless babysitters that sometimes babysat the twins. Asami knew that her parents could do it but she didn't always like going down that road. Mother would always comment about when Asami was pregnant and didn't tell them. It was like going into the battle fields. The parents truly do love January and Oscar but Asami just couldn't always handle the situation.
Asami took some time on her appearance that night. January watched her the whole time as different makeup products ended up on her face. Oscar was in the other room greeting the babysitter. Showing her one of his new toys. January squealed with delight as Asami added some lipstick to her daughter's lips. This was one of January's favorite parts when her mother made up her face. January was always into the action.
Asami got off the stool and both girls made their way out to where the babysitter and Oscar sat on the floor. Toys clutched in hand. A big remote control car going haywire and smashing into the walls. Now smashing into Asami's heel covered feet.
"You two better be on your best behavior tonight or no ice cream party tomorrow like we talked about" Asami told the youngsters. "No acting out before bed" she hugged the two.
// at the party
Asami showed up at the garden party with Ren Wright on her arms. He was always there for her through everything. The best friend a girl could ask for.
God, it seemed like everyone was back in town. It wasn't a reunion but it sure felt like one. Asami felt out of her comfort zone. She was friendly with a lot of these people way back when but some of them never did notice the Asian chick. They kind of expected her to always hang with the other Asians. She was pretty sure that they thought Ren and her were siblings, cousins or some other relation. It was funny back then. Being known for that and who her father was.
She spotted Shay Westward right away. A smile creeped up on Asami's face. She truly missed the girl. Asami never really pictured Shay coming back home. She was always the vegabond. Going wherever the wind took her. Always trying new things. Her world was full of influence. Meanwhile, Asami's was full of diapers, too many late nights, early mornings, feeding the twin monsters. Asami was so glad to be out of those stages of parenthood. Asami never did pick someone to be the kid's godmother but secretly hoped it would go to someone like Shay. Asami wasn't sure if she should say anything to her or not. She looked pretty content nursing drinks and dodging someone by the looks of it. Always running - that was the Shay she remembered and loved. Asami figured there would be other times to talk.
"Isn't that Sam Odell?" Ren was looking out at the crowd. Asami looked in that direction. He looked older, his hair longer, his style of clothing evolved. He wasn't that young man anymore. He looked like he just stepped out of a GQ magazine. Perhaps he did? Asami hasn't really been tracking his career choices. In that moment their eyes locked together. The crowd seemed to part. Sam Odell's legs started moving in their direction.
"Kiss me" She told Ren. Ren looked at her speechless. Asami kissed him. Odell was now in front of them.
"Asami, Ren" he got out. "How long have you two been together?" Odell wondered.
"It's new" Asami told him. Ren blushing. Asami didn't know why she was doing this. Maybe it was the fact that the last time she saw Sam Odell was the day where he made her go to Planned Parenthood for the abortion that clearly didn't happen. Asami wondered if he knew. If word traveled to him.
"Enough with us.. what's new with you?" Asami quizzed him. Ren left to find some alcohol. Inside he was a mess. He always wondered what it would feel like if he ever got the chance to kiss Asami and he felt the pettiness of how it was achieved. Ren also wanted to give those two some much needed privacy. He also wondered if Asami would come clean about the not-so-much-abortion.
Ren came back to the old sweethearts. "So, do you have kids?" Ren overheard Asami asking. He spit his drink out and began to choke. Sam Odell hit his back.
"It's a reasonable question" Odell told Ren once the coughing subsided. "We left on bad terms" he indicated with his hands going back and forth between him and Asami. "But no, I don't" He gave a weak smile.
"Actually" Asami started to say but then the music got even louder. "I didn't have the abortion".
Sam Odell didn't hear any of this. The music was too loud. The conversation didn't register. He heard nothing. They danced together.
Asami didn't know if he was taking in her words or didn't hear them at all.
"Do you actually love Ren?" Odell asked while the music got softer. She looked up at him. "Only as a friend" Asami admitted. "Damn, you could always see right past me" she added.
"Did I tell you how hot you looked tonight? Way better now than in High School." He teased brushing up against her more on the dance floor. "Probably the hottest mother here" he smirked.
She gasped at him. She didn't know what to say. "I just couldn't do it" Asami finally found her voice. A few tears came out. "I'm not sorry for what I did. Those two are my everything these days. Who told you!?" Asami pestered him.
"Your father did" he chuckled at the memory. Her father wasn't so pleased with him. He's known since Asami came back from Chicago. Mr. Chung always told him to stay away. That he himself would man up and be the father those kids needed. That hurt to hear but it's what made him get help with his addiction and staring in more family oriented movies instead of being labeled as the "has been" actor. He knew that Mr. Chung would be furious at the situation at hand but he couldn't live a lie anymore. He missed out on so much. He almost went to the Chung residence more times than he could count.
"I wanted to see you" he told her now. "To see them" he completed. Asami sighed. She knew that this was probably too soon but she heard herself say, "Tomorrow we're having an ice cream party and movie night at my house. Don't be one of those dad's who are afraid to meet their offspring. Go or don't. But if you say you'll go and you don't then It would kill other chances of seeing them." Asami felt mean but she'd do anything to protect her young.
While dancing with Sam Odell, Asami saw Damien out of the corner of her eye. He had a drink in one hand and the other glued to his phone. A look crossed his face. One that showed how he hated being in the public eye. Like he was on school property drinking and going to get suspended at any given moment. One that told you he didn't want to be there. A look that made you not even want to say hi to him or ask the million dollar question, "What have you been doing? Married? Kids? Career?". Asami hated getting those comments as well. It was worse enough that Asami was single, had twins and had a job she loved but only got due to her dad stepping in. Asami instantly wanted a drink. She let go of Sam and they marched over to where the liquor was stored. Asami took one and ended up going in the direction that Damien stood.
She tried making small talk with him but Asami felt like he just had no idea who she was or maybe that was all the liquid courage clouding his mind. Shortly, Asami found her way back to Sam Odell. Sam was watching the exchange take place.
"Same Damien as ever" He declared with a wicked smile on his gorgeous face. Asami echoed the same thing but without the same meaning. She just felt like something happened that night to him.
