The curtains were drawn up. Jade knew those peach colored curtains. She's seen them all her life. Jade didn't remember how she got there. Jade pushed the blanket off of her. A piece of paper floated to the floor. She watched it fall in a daze.
Jade was now off the bed, bent down over the piece of paper. She had no strength left in her. She tumbled to the ground. Her head was spinning. The room remained still. Jade kept breathing heavily to help compose her aching head. She rushed to the sink in the bathroom. Thankfully, Jade didn't end up being sick. Instead, water splashed over her face. She really needed that. Felt more clear headed.
"I'm never drinking again" came out of her mouth as she grazed into the mirror. How was Jade going to show her face to her grandmother? Jade still didn't understand how she got to her house in the first place. "The letter" she thought and ran back out to find it. It was still on the floor. More crumpled up than how she left it. Jade quickly read it.
Then it all came back to her. "Smith. I went out with him last night". She had to confirm this fact to herself. Jade reread the letter again. She kept rereading the part about him going into the bar's bathroom.
Jade wished that he told her to follow him. They could have had a good time together in there. A great way to rekindle their friendship. Sighing, Jade put the letter down. She knew that she couldn't just stay in this room. Knew she'd have to face her grandma.
Jade looked down at her clothes. Everything was still intact. Jade knew that what she was wearing would be a little too revealing for granny. Or maybe it was to be expected from her. Granny recently found out about her taking pole dancing lessons from Emma. Jade didn't understand how her grandmother found out but she was okay with that too. Grandma Harrison was all for equality so it wasn't such a problem. Jade kept old clothes in the drawers and closet there. Quickly, she rummaged through everything. Finally, she found something that would work well. Jade slipped into the shower. Thoughts of Smith came to mind instantly. But these were old thoughts. Thoughts - memories, from the past.
// flashback
Jade and Smith were together in a difficult position. Unknown to them, the door was unlocked. They didn't expect anyone to be home at the time. Gregory, her dad, parged in the door. He got the surprise of his life. Gregory didn't know Smith was there. Gregory never did like Smith much. Luckily, both of them had a few items of clothing on still. Jade remembered being grateful for that. Gregory smashed Smith into the wall. He was livid. Jade never saw her father act like that before. It scared her. But still, she was worried about Smith. Long story short, Smith was never allowed to the house again. Jade and Smith tried to hide the relationship from her father after that. Sneaking around and all that. It didn't last long that way. Gregory had someone watching them.
Her dad gave Jade the optimum; It was either they stop now or the whole family moved and he'd make damn sure that Jade would never see the Francisco boy ever again. Jade couldn't live with either option. Both got her nowhere. In the end, Jade distanced herself from Smith. It was a hard thing to do. Very hard. It seemed that Smith moved on from loving Jade, he had a new girlfriend. He ended up having multiple girlfriends. All he wanted was Jade though. It tore both of them to pieces. Jade started playing the field. She figured if Smith was so happy without her then she could play the game too. Jade found her feminist ways that way. She learned that she could do what she wanted to her body. Do who and what she wanted.
// back to Grandma's house
"Hi, grandma". She said as she gave her a kiss.
Sidenote: Need to come up with a name for Jade's Grandmother.
