I'll be doing one of these every Wednesday
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
- I haven't picked this up since I was a little kid, and it's been probably about ten years since I read this for the first time. I forgot about its charm and blend of reality and fantasy, its rich descriptions, and endearing tale of the transformation of disagreeable little Mary Lennox. Spoiled, orphaned Mary moves to the English countryside to Misselthwaite Manor, a strange and lonely house over a dreary moor. She learns about a mysterious garden, and when she finds it, she and two others strive to restore the garden to its glory. I haven't finished it yet, and though I'm not even halfway through, it had me captivated since the beginning with it's pages full of enchanting secrets and the magic of discovery. The Secret Garden remains one of my favorite children's classics of all time.
