If you're living in parts of Malaysia, Indonesia or just Southeast Asia in general, you may have already heard about the insane haze situation happening in Sarawak, Malaysia.

I, myself, live in Sarawak (specifically in Samarahan), and I go to a boarding school in Kuching. This haze caused a few interruptions for me. Coincidentally, my exam week started right as the API levels rised. I get to study in an airconditioned room, sure, but when it's time to go to the exam venue, it gets very hot. It did become a distraction for me during exam, but I quickly got over it. The main cause for the haze, from what I know, is smoke from forest fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia. (Geez, I could barely see a thing here because of it.)

It started early August, and as the month progressed, the API readings just keep increasing. Serian is most affected by this. As of 30 August (a day before Malaysia's independence day), its current API reading is 360+. Closely followed by Samarahan, which is 300 (that's wicked hazardous).

There is nothing much you can do to help ease the situation unless you can get a big vacuum that can suck up all the smoke from the atmosphere. All we can do right now is to protect ourselves and stay safe. Remember to drink plenty of water, and try to stay indoors. Wear a mask if you want to go outdoors.
