VIDEO and ART USAGE Qs

Main points are bolded.

  • "VIDEO" (in reference to my own) refers exclusively to the video component of my uploads
  • "COVER" (in reference to my own) refers exclusively to the audio component of my uploads

NOTE: Some edits on this list have been dated to avoid confusion. Many of them feature rules I had previously spoken about on twitter but forgotten to update here. My apologies.

Q. Can I use your covers in my own projects? (animations, remixes, MMD, choruses, etc.)

  • A. Of course! As long as the project is a non-commercial work and you properly credit back, go right ahead! And if you're not sure whether or not a specific project is allowed, feel free to drop me a message!! And by all means, please link me to it when you're done! I'd love to see your work!!
  • One small note though is to please make sure you properly credit all the creators of all the assets used in your project!! If you're making an MMD, for example, make sure you credit models, stages, effects, and so on. And by extension (this is mainly for choruses) please make sure everyone involved is okay with having their content reused!! While I allow my covers to be used for a lot of things, not everyone might!!
  • Also, please do not use my work in conjunction with NSFW content. This is non-negotiable.
  • EDIT 8/4/2020: Finally putting this into formal writing—this is more a personal plea than anything else, but I'd like to ask that you please refrain from making content featuring I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry / ごめんねごめんね, especially if you plan on including the full song. Technically, I can't stop you, but please understand that I took the cover down for a reason and do not want it circulated any longer.
  • I don't like making people take down work, so if you've made something featuring that cover before, it's personally up to you whether you'd like to keep it up or unlist it, but please refrain from making any other content featuring my ごめんねごめんね cover in the future or distributing the song to others. This includes distributing the song or a clip of the song for animation memes.

Q. Can I draw fan art of your art or videos?

  • A. Absolutely!! And I'd love to see it when you're done!! Please link me!! All I ask is please no NSFW content!! I'm not comfortable with that and I don't want the image of my content to be damaged by it!!
  • EDIT 8/4/2020: Also, while I cannot stop you from drawing it, please do not send me any fan art featuring ごめんね!KYO and perhaps even refrain from listing me in the tags.

Q. Can I use your drawings or other artworks in my own videos / covers / projects / profiles / etc.?

  • A. That's a hard no, sorry! Please do not use my art without explicit permission!! I do not allow my art to be reused unless I've specifically made it for someone else or they've received my explicit permission. Please do not edit, reuse, or repost my art. This includes using my art for covers, talkloids, in / as headers, backgrounds, RP images, mood boards, or blog decorations on social media. You may, however, use my art as icons as long as you provide credit somewhere on your profile.

Q. Can I make merch (shirts, mugs, stickers, prints, charms, etc.) using your art?

  • A. Another hard no!! Definitely not!! Especially if you're planning on selling it!! Do not make or sell merchandise featuring my art. This is not a negotiable matter.

Q. Can I subtitle your videos / use your videos for my own covers?

  • A. That's going to be another no, sorry! Please do not repost / reuse / reupload / re-subtitle my videos!! I put a lot of effort and personalization into my videos, so I'd rather they not be reused elsewhere! If you're making a cover and you need a PV, please use the original or one of your own making. And on the same vein, please do not repost my videos on other sites, unedited or otherwise. It does not matter if you credit or link back--I do not want my videos uploaded anywhere other than my channel.
  • However! If you would like, you can submit closed captions for any of my videos!! I'm always looking for translators!! (EDIT 8/4/2020: though we'll see if this is even still a possibility following the upcoming Youtube changes hh;;)

Q. Can I reupload your videos / drawings / covers to my own account / other websites?

  • A. Hard no! Do not! Please do not reupload any of my content anywhere, whether it's videos, drawings, covers, snippets of my work, or anything else of the like. Credit or no credit--do not reupload anything I've made. If you're desperate to show someone something I've made, you can link them to my work on the original page or embed a link on your own account.

Q. Can I make my own covers / PVs inspired by yours?

  • A. I don't think I want to give the go-ahead on this one. My covers + PVs are my personal take on the original source material, so drawing your ideas from my interpretations is another layer away from the source. While there's nothing stopping you from imitating my tuning or harmonies, please do not redraw or recreate my PVs or the art featured in my PVs.

Q. I found your Soundcloud. Can I use your acapellas to make my own covers?

  • A. Please no! I upload acapellas / acapella snippets for listening and reference uses only!! Please do not make full covers from the acapellas posted to my Soundcloud.

Q. Can I make Nightcore/Daycore versions of your covers?

  • A. Please no!! While technically I can't stop you from making private versions for your own listening purposes, please do not make or upload any speed or pitch edited versions of my covers. If you do end up making a version for yourself, you cannot upload it to Youtube, Soundcloud, or any other website!!

MODULE/DESIGN Qs

Q. Can I draw fanart of your module designs?

  • A. Absolutely!! And I'd love to see it when you're done!! All I ask is please do not create any NSFW content featuring any of the modules/designs featured in my PVs. Outside of that, you're good to go!!

Q. Can I cosplay your module designs?

  • A. Absolutely!! I might not always have full body references on hand, but if you ever need a description of anything not featured in the art or in the original PV, feel free to message me for details!! And I'd absolutely love to see it when you're done!! Good luck!!

Q. Can I draw other characters wearing outfits you've designed?

  • A. Yes!! As long as you keep everything SFW and don't draw anything that would damage the image or reputation of the original outfits (i.e. spread hate, draw kink, etc...), you're good to go! Just please be sure to include credit for the original design or link back to the original upload you were inspired by. Other than that, have fun!!

Q. Can I make an ask blog using your module designs? (from videos or from the Packaged AU)

  • A. Please do not!! My designs are very personal to me and I don't like the thought of them or their interpretation being out of my control!! While there's nothing I can do to stop you from making designs inspired by my own, please do not create ask blogs using my personal designs.
  • You're free to include references, cameos, and mentions of my designs, however!! For example, if someone wanted to use a magic anon to change your muse's costume to one from one of my PVs, you're free to do so!!

Q. Can I make merch featuring your module designs? (i.e. keychains, stickers, prints, notebooks, etc...)

  • A. As long as you use your own art/art commissioned by someone who is okay with it being used in merch, you may make personal, one-off merch featuring any of my modules outside of the Packaged AU. You may not sell any merchandise featuring my designs, but if you'd like to have a copy of something for yourself, you're free to do so.
  • Again, however, you may not create merch using my art.

Q. (Oddly specific, but) For module designs originally featuring only one of the ZOLA Project characters, can I make matching/edited designs for the other two characters? (i.e. making an Ai Kotoba II design for WIL and YUU, making a Candy Addicts design for KYO and YUU, etc...)

  • A. Yes, you may!! As long as you either credit or link back to the video featuring the original module design, you may create matching costumes for the other two ZOLA members.

GENERAL Qs

Q. What software do you use for your videos / covers / etc?

  • A. I start most of my mixes in Garageband '11 before moving over to Logic Pro X for the in-depth work and then do some fine tuning / post work in Audacity. All my art is done in Krita and I make my videos in AviUtl!! Sometimes I get a little fancy and use LipSync for facial animation or MMD for 3D elements but other than that, that's about it w

Q. Where can I download LipSync?

Q. How long have you been making covers for?

  • A. I started using UTAU in 2011, though a lot of my early stuff could hardly be counted as real tuning/mixing w. I got my first VOCALOID in 2012 (VY2v3!!), and 2014 was when I first stared working on covers in earnest!!

Q. Is KYO a real VOCALOID / did you make KYO?

  • KYO is in fact a real VOCALOID, yes! No, I did not make him w. He's a part of the ZOLA Project, a commemorative packaged released by Yamaha to celebrate VOCALOID's 10 year anniversary. He comes with two other libraries, WIL and YUU, and together they make quite the vocal set!!

Q. What song are you going to cover next?

  • A. That's a secret until it goes up~ (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Q. 日本人ですか?/ 日本語を話しますか?

  • A. いいえ、アメリカ人です。日本語は話せませんが、少しは分かります。間違いがあれば、すみません!私の日本語は上手じゃないです。まだ勉強しています!
