"We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless."
--Oscar Wilde, the Preface to "The Picture of Dorian Gray"

  • Need:

-1 cup of softened butter -1 cup of sugar -1/3 cup of brandy -3 beaten eggs -1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg -1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon -4 cups of flour

  • Mixing Directions:

-pour butter in a large mixing bowl and beat until creamy -add sugar to the butter, beating until light and fluffy -Individually add and mix together the eggs, brandy, and spices -now slowly mix in the flour until you get a ball of dough -cut the dough in half and wrap each log in wax paper, putting them in the refrigerator for a few hours (like three or four) or overnight.

  • Cooking Directions:

-preheat the oven to 350 degrees -heavily (seriously) flour your rolling surface, also heavily flour the rolling pin or whatever you're using to roll out the dough. -roll out the dough to whatever thickness you want, but I wouldn't do more than half an inch. These cookies don't rise that much but more than half an inch might take longer to cook. -cut out shapes with cookie cutters and put them on a cookie sheet. -cook for about ten minutes, periodically checking on them. Yummy!
