iPod Classic was only one (or two, or three) generations. There was the iPod, the iPod Photo, the iPod Video, and the last generation of the iPod was called "The Classic". Of which there are 3 "sub-revisions" - the "6th Gen" (the first "classic") with 80 or 160GB (thick back-plate), with 128GB disk limit (yes, also for the 160GB model)

The "6.5"th Gen was the 120GB model, also with 128GB limit

the "7th Gen" is the 160GB thin model. There is no disk space limit, there exist upgrades of 2TB.

This classification of the "classic" is not official.
