• Never ever be late.
  • Always check your patient's charts first thing in the morning, before you go home and in between, lalo na kapag toxic yung patient.
  • Be attentive and don't sleep during rounds.
  • Know your patients and your alternates' patients. Endorse your patients properly to those who are on-duty and if you are on-duty make it a point to get their endorsements.Dapat OC ka about this.
  • Always respect your superiors and follow their orders(as long as valid). If you have any questions or doubts, feel free to approach them. Remember you're part of a team.
  • Accomplish all the necessary documents ahead para di ka ma-toxic kapag kelangan na sila.
  • Wag magsungit sa patients and sa nurses kasi anytime puwede ka nilang ilaglag.
  • Kapag mag-rerefer ka ng patients to others services including radio, know your case and know why your patient is being referred before referring. Hindi puwede and "hindi ko alam eh". Nung intern ako ng CV Med andami kong napagalitan na clerk dahil sa lousy referral. Extend courtesy sa mga pag-rereferran mo.
  • Huwag kayong mag-gugulangan sa trabaho. Diyan nagsisimula ang gaps among groupmates. Teamwork dapat.
  • Huwag mandadaya sa monitoring and sa decking of patients and duties. Kapag may na-notice ka na something irregular about your patients i-refer mo sa superiors mo pero at least you should have an idea. Hindi ka robot na monitor lang nang monitor.
  • Follow the house rules of each service. Read your clerkship manual.
  • Don't forget na mag-courtesy call bago mag-start sa rotation. Mahirap na ma-piss off sa inyo yung mga residents. And get endorsement from the outgoing clerks of that rotation.
  • Bawal ang yosi, alcohol, sex and gambling sa ward.
  • Wag matutulog hanggang hindi tapos ang trabaho. Ayos lang na mag-decking.
  • Kahit na toxic, make it a point na kumain nang maayos para wala namang mangyari sa iyo.
  • If you are to present a case in a grandrounds, admitting conference or case conference, read about your case thoroughly and make a comprehensive presentation. Have your slides checked by your superiors. And during the presentation, it's an unwritten rule na huwag ilaglag ang superiors mo.
  • You should get endorsements by the time na nakapag-courtesy call na kayo sa department. By that time kasi na-prepare na ng outgoing clerks ang list of patients para i-raffle nyo among you. Read carefully their histories and course in the ward, laboratories done, current medications, and get familiar with the contents of the chart. Do history and physical exam on the patient personally because the patient's condition might be different from the time he was admitted. You should be OC about this lalo na sa Medicine, OB Gyn at Pedia kasi ito ang departments na may everyday teaching rounds. Check nyo rin if "for AdCon/CaseCon/Grandrounds" yung patient nyo para mapaghandaan nyo. Sa OB nga it's the consultants which make the rounds with the clerks kaya nakakatakot kapag di mo alam ang case. Nung time namin pinaka-kinatatakutan si Dr. Go (IM), Dra. Cora Lim (OB), Dr. Conde (Neuro) and Dr. Emilio Hernandez (Pedia Nursery) sa mga rounds at adcon.
  • In surgery clerkship, be sure to have your clean white scrub suit (with OR slippers, cap & mask) all the time. hindi mo alam kung kelan nila kakailanganin ng assist mula sa inyo.
  • most of our textbooks are foreign-based. you have to be resourceful in grabbing a copy of local guidelines, some ancillary/lab procedures are not applicable due to financial constraints, some drugs are not available locally, etc. thus, you have to be flexible. second, textbooks change every 3-4 yrs. what you know today may be false (or different) after 3-4 years.
