- Nicotine is an evolutionary adaptation that tobacco plants created to kill bugs. When a bug eats a tobacco plant, the dose of nicotine relative to the size of the bug kills it. Isn't it strange that humans derive such pleasure/addiction from a chemical that is essentially a pesticide?
