- svitlana, who shared the same confusion as me at how model aeroplanes could be interesting
- daniel, who used to work as a lawyer for the australian defence force but wanted to be a pilot if not for his poor vision. he encouraged me to consider the defence industry as a way to get into international relations
- the girl at the doc martens store who said i had a pretty name
- the guy at the bicentennial tree with his american friend eric who does photography. he wore a classic cowboy hat
- the girl at jb hifi who complimented my bracelet at the same time i complimented her pins, and we both laughed at how awkward we were
- anne, and the way she gives everyone hugs and holds their hands and has a way of making everyone feel heard
- priscilla, cabin crew who was so excellent at being happy, and just the loveliest person. when dad asked if it was possible to have both coffee and apple juice she paused and said ‘hmm let me think about that one’ and took a moment to consider before she laughed and gave him both. she also told us how she got confused because the foil for the scrambled eggs was red while the banana bread was yellow, and she thought that the eggs should be yellow so she always nearly gave people the wrong meal
- the woman sitting next to me on the flight to dubai, who was going to uganda. she wasn’t eating much of her meals so she could get on the timezone better, so if she noticed that i liked something, she’d offer it to me (i got two banana yoghurts!)
- charlie, the girl at the british sweet shop who had a knack for picking up names as a side effect of working in hospitality, and seemed quite scared by my dad and liz arguing (but it was the best part of her day apparently)
- mars, who i really hope i will see again because she has the most beautiful laugh and a wonderful sense of humour that pairs with aaron perfectly
- nikki, who used to study political science until she took a law unit and found she liked criminology better
- the guy at macworx who said i didn’t need to show my driver’s license in spite of store policy because he remembered me
- the girl at boba bear who said she liked my harry styles bag
- linda, who really likes my carrot cakes
- the lady at work, whose card kept declining and was so worried about it so i made her just take the bread without paying and she looked as if she was about to cry
- the girl who works at boba bear who gave me free drinks twice because i stole her savoury bites from work
- the person at jb hifi when i was buying sonic who said my bag and pins had made her day
- the old lady with arthritis who bought a pack of apricot rolls that said i could be her guardian angel for the day when i snuck her a free bag
- the man walking his dog on the way to the station who told me about the costs of education, and how he wanted to send his dog in for parliamentary question time because she’d do a better job
- the lady at the vinyl store who said the way that i talked to my dad reminded her of her and her dad
- daniela at the aec, who confided in me that she was divorcing her husband and needed reassurance, and who listened to me when i explained how to help her son based on the fact i wish my parents had gotten divorced
- sue, also at the aec, who seemed harsh but was actually quite lovely if you just stepped back and waited to listen to her. she’d give me glances of a mutual annoyance when everyone else was trying to crowd around and be involved, and ended up showing me her entire photo album of dancing photos and costumes from her competitions and performances
- the lady at spotlight who asked me about beading because 'it looked like i knew what i was doing' and i got to help her choose things for a beaded lampshade she was making
- the girl at the pizza place when i went in the day after the girl in red concert - who asked me how the show was and if i had a good time because she couldn’t get tickets
