self-explanatory lmaooo i just think itd be fun to write about all the instances that i know about. my knowledge of some of these will be more extensive than others, chances are if i witnessed it happen in real time, i'll have more details on it. because this is listography and not twitter i'm not going to add links to direct sources or pictures of anything (at least not for the time being), just recite the situation like a story, and all of these paragraphs will start with the background stuff necessary for context for the controversy. (nobody is ever really going to see this- but of course, if someone sees that my information is wrong, reach out to me. my socials are in another list in my archive.)

❑ waterparks and loveless beef

The album Intellectual Property (2023) by Waterparks is largely about frontman Awsten Knight's experience with religious guilt and how it affects how he thinks about things now. Despite the cheerful and frantic sound of the music, the topic itself is quite heavy and serious. In late May of 2024, the band announced a follow-up album to IP- you could call it a sister album or a sequel, titled Intellectual Property 2: Lost in the Property. There was a lot of positive reception to the couple of singles the band released for this sequel, among them, the song "FAI2" (a sequel/remix of sorts to the song "FUCK ABOUT IT", a track on IP, released in late June).

Also in late June of 2024, Loveless released their song Heart-Shaped Soul. It is worth mentioning that Loveless was an opening band for Waterparks on the SNEAKING OUT OF HEAVEN tour. Naturally, it was assumed the two bands were cool with one another, with Loveless' frontman Julian Comeau mentioning in tweet replies how he wished he could have gotten a picture with Awsten on tour, but it never happened.

Later in August, the second album was cancelled due to multiple aspects out of the band's control. Awsten gave some reasons as to why: "unprecedented mishaps, bureaucratic red tape, and bizarre things that have gone wrong." The topics and themes of this sister album were very similar, if not the same, to its predecessor. Awsten additionally stated that dealing with these heavy topics and having them on his mind all the time was detrimental to his mental health: "-constantly being in the headspace of re-approaching my issues with religion is very unhealthy and continues to take its toll on my mental wellbeing. The idea of having to follow through with a full rollout, multiple tours for it, and keep living in that place sounds daunting and I’d rather take a beat and reapproach the next Waterparks album with love rather than fear and bad energy." The last intended single was released shortly after the announcement, and the album's release was cancelled.

I don't have the dates on the tweets, nor do I know what order they were posted, so I'm just going to try to put it all together in a way that will make sense.

Sometime after this all happened and the tour was over, Julian stated in a tweet and additional replies: "touring is hard for sure but there's a certain band we toured with that nearly killed me" and followed it up by saying "if you're offended by this tweet maybe stop being evil on twitter and go to therapy because i thought about k*lling myself on that tour repeatedly yall are cruel"

Julian attached two pictures in another tweet- one was a screenshot of the streams at the time for FAI2 by Waterparks (766,187) and the other was a screenshot of the streams of Loveless' newest release, Heart-Shaped Soul (958,696), comparing the numbers.

❑ as it is and palaye royale controversy

As It Is and Palaye Royale were both a part of Warped Tour in 2018. On July 31, As It Is performed their set on stage, and vocalist Patty Walters took a couple of minutes to give a speech. He talked about

Palaye Royale would play their set later in the day, and some time after that, guitarist Sebastian Danzig tweeted about hearing Patty's speech, and his thoughts on it: "Heard the most ridiculous thing today. Some singer complained about getting on stage everyday. I get it anxiety is what people deal with everyday but there are so many people that would kill to be in your position. You get to play “your” music to a crowd everyday. Suck it up.”

Patty was not mentioned by name, but saw the tweet, and responded the next day, when As It Is had their next set at the festival.
