Long list items, but I need to get them down.

  • Both times I have gone to the hot springs at Ojo Caliente, something natural and very, very beautiful has happened. The first time, it snowed. This time, my best friend and I watched the moon rise while in the water. The big deal about that is that tonight the moon was closer to the earth than it has been in years.
  • Watching the moon, and watching at least a dozen others watching the moon I had an epiphany. The moon only does exactly what God created it to do. It doesn't try; it's probably not even self aware. God put it in orbit to create tides and help people keep track of months. Yet it is one of the most mesmerizing, beautiful things in the whole world. It caused everyone to stop and stare tonight. How many poems have compared the beauty of a woman to that of the moon? Countless; it is a standard of grace and splendor. But I kept coming back to the fact that it is simply doing what God created it to do. It is not trying to be beautiful, it's simply fulfilling its purpose and in doing that, it is seen as breathtakingly, astoundingly, stop-you-in-your-tracks beautiful.
  • The moon's beauty was so great that a man in the springs began to pray out loud and sing in Arabic. I was able to listen to that beautiful language I love while soaking in hot, soothing water and looking at a gorgeous sight I may never see again.
