- The Avett Brothers - because they are one of few artists who can always make me cry, their songs are so beautiful.
- My Chemical Romance - because, as cliche as it must seem, they really did change my life.
- Steel Train - because I've never seen a live show as good as the one they put on.
- The Format/fun. - because the lead singer boosts my hometown pride in a way I didn't even know was possible.
- The Dresden Dolls - because everyone needs "fuck you" music, and there's none that makes me prouder to be a girl at the same time.
- The Shirelles - because their harmonies have inspired me since I was six years old.
- Gogol Bordello - because I'm a gypsy at heart, and every time I listen to their music I want to be dancing around a fire with an intensity that startles me.
- Lady Gaga - because say what you want about her, but she's fearless, and I think young women need a role model like that.
- Blink 182 - because they may not be sophisticated, and they may not challenge your emotions, but they were the soundtrack to my high school career.
