- Smelling fresh truffles at Borough Market in London.
- Walking along Southbank, Indian food in Camden town, taking pictures of Amy Winehouse graffiti and lovely house fronts, roaming around the Tate Modern, laughing about a Friends shirt at Primark, make-up shopping at Topshop (I bought the magic liner and an amazing glitter dome).
- Marks and Spencer supermarkets - such a lifesaver. I was so thirsty so I went a little crazy and got Elderflower presse, Scottish mountain water, a bowl of British strawberries (ready with a little cup of cream!), pistachio cookies, rhubarb drops, clotted cream ice cream and lemon curd yoghurt.
- Foreign supermarkets in general. I could spend hours browsing the aisles.
- Driving over the long bridge between England and Wales at sunset. Discovering Caerphilly castle by accident. Seeing the ocean behind Barry. Trying to make sense of the Welsh traffic signs.
- Chasing our hosts' pets around the house. I must have seen at least ten cats on this trip.
- Gina's café in Cardiff (she made us try different kinds of Arabic coffees and spicy beverages), browsing the market (my friend bought Irving's The Cider House Rules in a used book aisle) and the shops. Falling in love with a pair of shoes at Urban Outfitters.
- Getting a lift into town, having Eton Mess and Pimm's. Walking home with a bottle of black cherry cider. Marvelling at the orange, yellow and white poppy flowers in someone's garden.
- Walking along the beach in Bournemouth. Having bubblegum flavoured Calippo. Getting a little sunburned. Considering going for a swim but being too reasonable. Petting a caterpillar.
- Oh, I forgot: learning to drive a British car / drive in left-hand traffic. Exciting!
- The White Swan Inn in Arundel. I loved the plushy chairs and the fairy lights.
- Brighton is amazing. Walking along the Marina, getting a drink, walking through The Lanes with all the little quirky stores and cafés. Terry Pratchett plays, nothing but bearded hipsters, great pubs, clubs, galleries. The fancy Wetherspoon's on the main road (gin and tonic is only 2.50 and a jug of Pimm's 6.75 - WHAT).
- Brighton's residental areas like Stanmer Villas. We were staying in a massage therapist's house, full with self-made artworks and a curious little cat. I slept in the nicest bed every, directly under a window so you could lie there watching the stars and the houses before falling asleep.
- The houses at the river in Canterbury and all those tiny bridges.
- Meeting up with a true introvert in London, having dinner at Mildred's in Soho. Walking to Green Park and Buckingham Palace, taking a photo of a window display with plush Corgis. Another jug of Pimm's and off to Brixton.
- Seeing the Correspondents at Brixton Jamm. Talking to lovely Brits, having Gin and tonics. The crowd was amazing; lot's of dancing and friendly faces. I wish we could have such a place in Munich. Oh, and I even saw Mr Bruce after the concert. He's incredibly talented.
- Taking the night bus into London at 4am, driving over the Thames shortly before sunrise.
- My new obsession is Pimm's Cup. I could drink it all day... strawberries and cucumber are a must. I'm hoping to find a bottle of Pimm's here in Germany!
- Walker's Salt and Vinegar crisps, Reese's peanut butter cups, Stowford cider, lemon thins.
- Spending the day in bed, lying around naked, waking up to a thunderstorm. Reading in bed, not going to work. Sleeping for 18 hours. And them some more. Cosy.
- Verival porridge. Yeah, STILL. I love the taste and the texture.
- Glitter things. Three glitter stars on my phone and funky Topshop eyeshadow which changes its colour from blue to pink/purple.
- Watermelon flavoured gummy candy.
- The "stream of consciousness" narrative mode. Fits my way of thinking.
- Wearing a rather extravagant dress. Just because.
- Excellent flea market finds: a gorgeous flower dress (unfortunately a little too small) and two books (one of them by Mindy Kaling - I read it in one afternoon).
- Augustiner beergarden with Fabi, Frank and Flo (just noticed - triple F!). Musing about weird porn stuff, enjoying the evening. Afterwards: 90s party! Such fun although I forgot how much techno the 90s had to offer...
- Meeting Tobi at 4am! Talking about our lives, getting career advice.
- A free Mother's Cake concert at Import Export and apple fresh headbang waves
- Lying on the sofa, him topless, eating Tarboosh wraps.
- "Like Ice in the Sunshine" on the radio on my drive home from work. Hadn't heard that song in a while.
- Rhubarb cake.
- The first slice of fresh buffalo mozzarella. Nothing else, just eating it pure, standing up in the kitchen one early evening.
- Playing some kind of hide and seek with a soft-bearded, adorable man. Having girly drinks with way too much fruit together. Taking the wrong subway. Fighting about the right article for Spezi. Kissing in the kitchen. And the hall. And that other room. Not really believing that someone actually likes me, perhaps, probably, even though I'm so weird.
- Playing with a piggy dog toy which makes surprisingly authentic sounds.
- Homemade burgers.
- Peonies. I hope they'll blossom soon.
- The lovely purple concrete walls in the cinema toilet. Oh, and of course the movie I saw: Victoria by Sebastian Schipper!
- Seeing unusually many glowworms in the English Garden.
- My first visit at Schwabinger 7. Fast driving and dirty kisses on a little bridge (over troubled water - srsly).
- Driving home at night, listening to an episode of the Biene Maja on FM4.
- She seems to have a great eclectic taste.
- Talking to Franzi on the phone for almost two hours.
- Pistachio ice cream, covered with white chocolate and roasted pistachios.
- Going swimming outdoors for the first time this year. Only for twenty minutes, mainly sitting around, enjoying the evening sun. Getting rid of your cold, wet swimsuit, slipping into a warm shirt and pyjama bottoms. Soaking up warmth under a blanket.
- Stealing a lavender twig. Smells so nice! Lavender nails, too (Essie's - "nice is nice").
- Having people over. Which means that you actually clean your apartment for the first time in ages.
- That nice boy again, the one I don't really deserve #massivebitch. Eating spinach, fried eggs and rosemary potatoes. Drinking Spezi, making out in the elevator and on the balcony, watching Garden State and talking about life. Having breakfast in bed, having someone to help me when I can't finish my cereal bowl. I love having someone to share food with. How else could you ever eat half a banana?
- Really good cake (apricot and redcurrant) in the teachers' kitchen.
- Buying the Grumpy Girl Gang sticker set from Iraville.
- The fact that it's not getting dark outside until half past ten. The sun waking me up every morning by shining directly into my face.
- Getting a wake up call from our school's secretary at 8:30. I overslept and felt very much like one of my pupils. But I arrived in time for the second lesson and nobody really cared. Bless our relaxed atmosphere.
- Some principal actually took 15 minutes and actively talked me out of going to his design school because I'm kinda overqualified. Which made me feel a little better.
- Making pizza a breakfast food.
- Calling Frank on his shit. Which doesn't necessarily make me happy but it was long overdue.
- Finally being motivated enough to write some applications and make some appointments.
- Some pretty good advice on life and career choices.
- Lying in the sun, reading The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett and listening to old Vampire Weekend songs. Dipping into the pool for a few minutes. Eating sugary strawberry candy, taking pictures of the zigzag print from the deck chair on my thighs. Telling the nice man that I like him and that I like how good he is for me.
- Houses made out of cardboard containers.
- Siobhan Watts from Bless the Weather.
- Sunsets in yellow, orange and purple.
- The fact that this "Things I Love" list for June is so incredibly long. Which almost makes me hope that I'm in for some good times. Let's make them last.
