With a french press:

  • Must be a clear brew (torra clara or soft coffee in BR)
  • Boil the press so coffee stays warm longer
  • But DON'T boil the water! If it boils, let it cool down b4
  • 2 ts coffee + 200 (180) mL water (+ 2 ts sugar)
  • or 5/6 ts + 1 L water?
  • 6 g coffee + 100 mL water (but 80 to 100g/1 L gives 5 to 6 ts)
  • Depending on the thickness of the grain, use 4, 4-6, 6-9 min
  • Some say 4 min, max
  • The best grain is the medium thickness one for this method
  • Don't reheat it
  • Discard the used coffee: don't let it get in touch with your drink!
  • Use some of the used coffee to soften and give your steak some taste
  • Leave the drink in the press only for so long (it gets in contact with the used coffee and gets bitter)
  • Leave the drink in the mug for 1 min before drinking
  • Pour gently the coffee into the mug: this way the "dust" will remain in the press
  • The coffee used must be very good and well ground
