• two cold spoons in the fridge at all times! you take em out if you've been crying and press them to your eyes till the swelling goes down. less messy than ice cubes.
  • music in the mornings. i truly don't know if it works for everyone - but at least for me, sound can override exec dysfunction for a little while, or at least distract you from the brain whirlpool just long enough to get out of bed. it's like magic! i have spent entire academic years playing a song every single morning.
  • feel shitty, look pretty. "at least i'm cute" is a stopgap measure but some days it can still get u thru.
  • shea butter for scars
  • just show up. this one's from a post going round rn but it's really true. literally just show up to the thing without expecting more from yourself. just go. don't focus on how bad it'll be or if you'll fuck up or whatever - just GET there.
  • no single second is impossible. this is an AA thing, but it's a useful thing. u don't look forward at infinity in front of u; just live through a moment, then the next, then the next.
  • distract ya brain. i chant 99 bottles of beer to myself a lot, the whole thing. try to remember the poem they made u memorize in 8th grade that you've 100% forgotten. count backwards from fifty in pig latin. add up all the prime numbers one by one, or do the fibonacci sequence in your head as far as you can go. just pull your brain away from whatever it's dwelling on by giving it a job to do, and then do it for a while. regular meditation is also really helpful, if you can do the empty-mind thing, but a lot of people can't and it's not worth stressing yourself.
  • keep track of the external factors (if you have them) that make you feel worse or better – certain classes, specific people, etc. the things that make you dysphoric or exhaust you excessively. keep an eye on your sleep schedule, your food habits, etc. i think it helps, control-wise, to know at least a little about what exacerbates or soothes your depression.
