    • 5/5
    • yes, again.
  • True Grit (12.23, theatre)
    • 5/5
    • Awesome. Not just for having fabulous actors & a kickass female lead & surprising racial balance for being a Western set in the 1920s. When I saw the original, I didn't particularly care for it but I thought the storyline had potential: well, here it is done right. <3
  • Love Actually (12.20, dvd)

  • Black Swan (12.11, theatre)
    • 4/5
    • It was beautiful & thrilling & engaging -- & Natalie Portman was exceptional -- but also too many scenes where I just could not look at the screen. One of those in particular may haunt me for the next year.

  • Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (11.21, theatre)
    • 5/5
    • the amount of detail they managed to fit into the movie, without making it annoyingly obvious, sort of amazes me. I only caught on the second time 'round.

    • 3.5/5
    • THE HAIR. OMG THE HAIR.
  • Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (10.26, dvd)
    • 5/5
    • This one is sooooo preeeeetty. But Harry still likes to cop a feel off everything.
  • Zoolander (10.20)
    • 4/5
    • ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD IS THE BEST PART OF THIS MOVIE. But I also love Owen Wilson & Will Ferrell, so.
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (10.19, dvd)
    • 4/5
    • Copping a feel & Tom Cruise & Haggy Hugs, oh my!
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (10.14, dvd)

    • 2.5/5
    • ohh, another wasted Saturday afternoon.
  • Wuthering Heights, 2009 (09.18, dl)
    • 3.5/5
    • Man, what a fucked-up storyline. I always forget how disturbing it is. This adaptation wasn't exactly spectacular, but not terrible, neither.
  • a Serious Man (09.12, netflix)
    • 3/5
    • I got bored & made cookies instead.
  • Scott Pilgrim v. the World (09.03, theatre)
    • 4/5
    • It was funny & kinda cute. Recommended. Our fellow audience members were hysterical in hysterics.
  • Anastasia (08.16, stream)
    • 2/5
    • I somehow thought this was a Disney movie. And then I found out it wasn't. I was relieved.
  • Zombieland (08.13, SLU Block Party)
  • Tommy Boy (08.06, dvd)
    • 3/5
    • There was some funny stuff. But it was mostly really dumb.
  • Inception (08.06, theatre)
    • 6/5
    • Even better the second time -- either because of the champagne fuzziness or because I caught on to foreshadowing, having already seen it.
      • Also: EEEAAMMMMESS.
  • Dinner for Shmucks (08.05, Cinerama)
    • 3.5/5
    • I laughed a lot. But it was a pretty stereotypical comedy. I just love Steve Carell's facial expressions.
  • Inception (08.01, theatre)
    • 5/5
    • OMG, so good. Everyone is so sexy in this! And awesome! Loved EAMES and Ariadne's neckerchiefs. I shall see this again, and probably again.

    • 4/5
    • Such a tragedy, because it's true. But, also hopeful? I hope so.
  • An Education (04.20, netflix)
    • 4/5
    • I liked it, I DID I DID but whyyy did the last 20 seconds have to almost ruin it. Ugh. I dunno, the last line came off as backwards/contradictory to me. Oh well.
  • Where the Wild Things Are (04.11, netflix)
    • 3.5/5
    • I liked it. It was an excellent interpretation. But the ending fell a little flat, I thought.
  • Wilde (04.06ish, netflix)
    • 4/5
    • Fascinating to finally learn more about Oscar Wilde's life. Plus Stephen Fry is, you know, fantastic. Made you hate whatshisface, though -- however, I sorta wanna look up his poetry.
  • The Virgin Suicides (03.28, netflix)
    • 5/5
    • So gorgeous and sad and confusing. A little unsatisfying, but I think it's supposed to be that way. I think the film is based on something and I need to read it.
  • Cadillac Records (03.19, netflix)
    • 5/5
    • Seriously, wow; I loved it. I even cried. So good. Gave me those nice, warm happy feelings.
  • Marie Antoinette (03.17, netflix)
    • 4/5
    • Gorgeous! I liked it.
  • The Passion of Joan of Arc, 1928 (03.06, netflix)
    • 4/5
    • Some masterful directing somehow made this black & white, silent movie with a good deal of overacting amazingly entrancing. Very thought-provoking film.
  • Burn After Reading (03.01, netflix)
    • 4/5
    • It was good, & I enjoyed watching it, & the characters were very real and believable. But something about it just makes me go 'meh.'
  • The Triplets of Belleville / Les triplettes de Belleville (02.22, netflix)
    • 5/5
    • ohmigod so cute.
  • Elephant (02.15, netflix)
    • 4/5
    • It was interesting, and beautiful at times. You get an amazing sense of the characters with not a lot of action or dialogue. But it was also a little odd -- it's about high school violence, yet the film's set up in a way that almost treats it as a normal, everyday occurrence. The movie didn't really seem to have a point. But, maybe that was the point. I'd watch it again.
  • Percy Jackson & the Olympians (02.12, Pacific Place)
    • 5/5
    • Yes, it's different than the book, in many ways. But it's a good adaptation: the things that changed made for a more cohesive story on the silver screen. I still like the book better (natch), but I love the improvements here. Grover isn't a wimp! Annabeth is badass! Nice diversity in the casting, too.
  • Sense & Sensibility, 2008 (02.07, dvd)
    • 5/5
    • Oh it was beautiful. I'm glad it was as well-done as it is, because I never really cared for Emma Thompson's adaptation (ahh! Blasphemy!).
  • Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (01.28, w/ H)
  • Persuasion, 2007 (01.23, netflix)
    • 3/5
    • meh.
  • Adaptation (01.18&20, netflix)
    • 5/5
    • This movie is pretty spectacular. I've been meaning to see it again for years, and man. It's fantastic. I love it. It also really makes me want a typewriter.
  • The Golden Compass (01.17, dl)
    • 3/5
    • It's a nice effort, it really is. Scoresby & Iorek are great. But on the whole it's really a pretty bad movie, and that's too bad, since the books are so incredible.
  • Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (01.15, dvd)
    • 3.5/5
    • The action does kind of drag a bit in this one, but that's the book's fault. The settings & cinematography are quite pretty, however. My favorite part is still the Felix Felicis scene(s) -- Radcliffe is a much better comedic actor than dramatic.
  • (500) Days of Summer (01.09, dvd)
    • 4/5
    • It's funny how similar Zooey & Emily Deschanel are, in the way that they act, talk & deliver their lines. The resemblance is so obvious.
  • Avatar (01.03, Cinerama)
    • 4/5.
    • The totally formulaic plot & questionable acting left a sour taste in my mouth. You don't spend 10+ yrs on a movie for the visuals & ignore the script (see: Inglourious Basterds), even if those visuals do turn out fantastic. Nevertheless, it was worth seeing.
  • Inglourious Basterds (01.02, dvd)
    • 5/5.
    • This movie is just so good. Brilliant. That is all.
  • Zombieland (01.01, dvd)
    • 3.5/5
    • It was pretty funny, but that non-Michael Cera was really bugging me.
