I woke up this morning in an ambulance. My blood sugar had gotten so low it wouldn't even register. Dona found me at about 8am, non-resonsive, drenched in sweat & I had stripped off most of my clothes. So, of course she called 911. Dona & our neighbor Mandy (who is an RN) stayed with me until the EMTs came. The EMTs couldn't get an emergency line in to treat it, so they had to use this gadget called an EZ-IO® Intraosseous Infusion System that drills through your shin bone into your bone marrow to start a usable line. It took 3 whole bags of D50 (Dextrose 50% Injection) before I even started to wake up. Watch the video. I wouldn't have made it to the nearest hospital (20 miles to Laurel or to Magee) alive if it weren't for that EV-IO. I am back home now & very thankful to them for saving my life, but I am in quite a bit of pain.
