Here are some recent releases on the Star Wars Scale JarJar -- Luke -- Anakin -- Jabba -- Han Solo -- Greedo -- Lando -- Yoda -- Vader -- Boba Fett
- Arcade Fire, "Neon Bible": Lando. It sounds like their last one, but that's not a bad thing
- Modest Mouse, "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank": Yoda. I like it.
- LCD Soundsystem, "Sound of Silver": Boba Fett all the way! All the good parts of the last album x 10 with better and more coherent lyrics!
- ADULT., "Why Bother?": Vader. I've only listened to it a couple of times, but it's not like their last album & Ep with the guitar and rock-y thing going. This goes back to their earlier sound, only it takes it a step farther. Awesome.
- Ellen Allien, "The Other Side: Berlin": Yoda. It's a good mix, but gets kinda too cute in places.
- The Tossers, "Agony": Lando. I'd never heard this band before, and I'm kinda digging it.
- !!!, "Myth Takes": Boba Fett. That guy in the store the other day who said they sounded like the Red Hot Chili Peppers is smoking way too much crack. This CD is awesome.
- Menomena, "Friend and Foe" Yoda. This is an awesome album. It's kind of like a cross between XTC, X, and Modest Mouse. It's quirky, eccentric and awesome. It approximates what the Shins were a few years ago minus the cuteness.
- The Shins, "Wincing the Night Away" Han. It's pretty. It's nice. The lyrics are kinda clever-ish. It's just so gosh-darn pretty that all the NPR junkies are snorting it straight out of their ipods. Very cute.
- Amy Winehouse, "Back To Black": Yoda. Who the hell is Amy Winehouse? I didn't want to like her at all. I didn't want to, but I do. She's another English chick, but she sings like a 50 year old black lady. the lyrics are kinda cool too. Who would have guessed that the one who has so many Ira Glass fans creaming their shorts would actually be talented?
- Lily Allen, "Alright, Still": Lando. Another English chick I didn't want to believe the hype about. Her songs are catchy, the lyrics are clever and fun. Sorta like Fergie with brain cells and talent.
- The Cinematics, "Strange education": Lando. They sound exactly like the Editors crossed with Kasabian having an affair with Maximo Park. But, I like all those bands a lot, so I like them too. The formula works!
- Shiny Toy Guns, "We Are Pilots": Yoda. I like this CD. It's catchy and fun in a New New Wavy sort of way.
- Bloc Party, "Weekend In The City": Greedo. All the good Gang-Of-Four-Ripoff bands got self-conscious and tried to prove that they were versitile and weren't just jumping on the G04-esque bandwagon. I got news for ya-- Gang of Four were awesome, and there's a reason why every band 2 years ago wanted to sound like them. Keep the formula and make it your own. Don't go in a strained, unnatural direction.
- The Stooges, "The Weirdness": ? Truthfully, we've listened to this album at work multiple times and I can never get it to stay in my head. It goes in one ear and out the other. I think I like it when I pay attention, but it doesn't grab me by the hair and shout I AM AWESOME, LISTEN TO ME! like former Stooges' works.
- Neil Young, "Live At Massey Hall": Greedo. Neil Young is awesome, but he sounds like a 12-year-old on this album. Yeah he was younger, but still. This is totally acoustic with just him singing with a piano. Some songs are good, but there are a few that need to be more raucous and less subdued.
