    • King is a skilled, descriptive writer who has a knack for emotional and perceptive realism, and this book does more than just horror in the pulpy sense, also discusses racism, homophobia, small town prejudice, fear in its many forms and what it does to people. but this book didn't need to be as long as it was, and the racist "jokes" were pretty fucking painful... i enjoyed it, especially towards the end, but there was some slogging for sure
