- The Funeral (Band of Horses) - in a cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains, looking longingly out the window of a cozy bedroom. At the time, I was reading The Singer of All Songs.
- Into the West (Annie Lennox) - in my grandmother's house in the woods. It was Christmastime. I was listening to the song on my CD player over and over again while eating curiously strong tangerine Altoids. All my cousins were there.
- Spaceman (The Killers) - We had just said our tearful goodbyes to the Thai exchange students whom we loved so much. We were driving east and I kept turning around to watch the beautiful sunset, thinking of my Thai friends.
- Closer (Nine Inch Nails) - Driving home from Spring Green, the beautiful rural town where we stayed with our friends for a weekend. We had gone hiking, canoeing in a lovely marsh, and stargazing. We also had seen a firefly field. The drive home was so beautiful I wanted to cry.
- Hey Stephen (Taylor Swift) - Driving three hours up to the state cross country meet, sophomore year. It was a lovely drive on a cold day, and I had two bags of Halloween candy and we ate all of it.
- 10 Dollar (M.I.A.) - Spending the night in a hotel in North Carolina after the best Thanksgiving ever. We spent the week at the beach, and the weather had been wonderful. I was so sad to leave.
- Judas (Lady GaGa) - This would always come up on my bedtime playlist when we were in England. We stayed in a quaint little cottage and I was on the pull out couch in the sitting room, and I would stare up at the old ceiling beams and think of how happy I was to be in England.
- This Is The Sea (The Waterboys) - I was on a plane to Washington DC to visit my Grandma. I was reading Looking For Alaska and this song came on. It was at the part right after Alaska died. Now, whenever I hear this song, I think of Alaska.
- Any song from the Beatles' Red Album or A Hard Day's Night - Listening to the record player in the den. I learned the lyrics to every single song.
- Get Off of My Cloud (Rolling Stones) - Having amazing pillow fights with my brother and my best friend. We jumped around the room and danced for hours while listening to the Rolling Stones.
- Speed of Sound (Coldplay) - I was in a shop, in Annapolis, that sold everything made from Alpaca wool. It was a beautiful day.
