- wildlife photographer of the year exhibit at Natural History (favorites were spoonbills, leopard, polar bear, fox, and blue shark)
- Native American museum - reading children's books about native american myths (how the raven stole the sun) and learning about the inuit
- walking Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg
- watching National Geographics in the sun room every evening
- having Alice over for dinner and talking and listening to stories
- going to the Country Club with the Downs and watching the sunset on the golf greens and eating blueberry pie à la mode and listening to conversations
- going to the Indian store near the zoo and the adorable shopkeeper who told me everything would look good on me because I "have the good height"
- getting stopped by a Greenpeace representative on the street and almost signing up for a monthly donation
- walking around the zoo and seeing a ghariel, a sleeping panda, an alligator, a spoonbill, a giant tortoise, a tiger, and a cheetah
- running down Connecticut avenue and through Grandma's neighborhood
- walking to MacGruder's and bringing back more cardboard boxes than we could carry
- walking through Georgetown and watching the skulls and loons and herons on the Potomac river
- walking, walking, walking until we thought we would collapse
- running with Danielle for 45 minutes down Rock Creek Parkway and seeing a graveyard on a hill
- helping Susan arrange the house for selling, carrying furniture up to the attic and hanging birdhouses with picture frame hooks and string
- finishing The Hobbit and reading The Children of Húrin
- walking through the neighborhood at dusk and looking at all the big beautiful houses
- LaTanya the mail lady who came in asking to have Grandma's big green plant and telling us her living room looked like a rain forest because "plants are cheaper than furniture"
- seeing the little kids' soccer practice in the park on Kirkside
- walking around Rock Creek Park and visiting the horse stables and petting the horses' noses
- sending a post card to Amanda's grandpa
- the kid with a cast on his arm who jumped out of the trees and sprinted away as we were pulling into the video store parking lot (funniest thing ever)
- lying on the couch, exhausted, playing trivial pursuit and getting all the answers wrong (how did Pablo Picasso sign his paintings?) (...Pablo?) (No, Picasso you idiot!)
