i always go on and on about how much i adore the college, the city, and the people in it. here's why.
why i love the city
- there is always somewhere to go to get food. at home, everything closes by like... 8. most places are open until at least 2 in madison.
- state street has awesome little shops. there is no excuse for being bored.
- all my friends are there.
- venturing off-campus brings even more possibilities.
why i love the college
- libraries open 24 hours. so you need to pull an all-nighter? hc white will provide you with a cozy table, plenty of coffee, and free wifi.
- it doesn't matter what you want to do with your life. we have a major for it.
- our electives are amazing. you can get credit for everything from icelandic literature in translation to an intense cardio workout, and everything in between.
- it's huge, but it doesn't feel overwhelming. there are 40,000 people, sure. but you start noticing the same people every day and it feels a little more like home.
why i love the people
- nobody looks at you funny. ever. you will never be the strangest thing they've seen.
- no matter what your interests, there are people that share them and would love to talk to you.
- i only know about three mccain supporters on campus. it's so ridiculously liberal down there.
- most of them don't judge. even if your morals are the polar opposite of theirs, they're cool with it.
- they're all on the same sleep schedule as me. if i'm bored at 3am on a tuesday night, i'm going to be able to find at least five other people in the same situation.
