there is currently a boycott towards hybe (which includes the subsidiary companies ador, pledis, belift, koz, and source music*). many are also boycotting the other big four companies: yg (as well as its subsidiary the blacklabel)**, sm, and jyp (and its subsidiaries studio j, squ4d, and innit entertainment)***, as well as starship.
to clear up some confusion regarding hybe and cj enm, since search results about it are a little confusing.
cj enm (also written as cj e&m) is a subsidiary of cj ent and NOT of hybe. hybe and cj both owned part of belift and hybe bought cj enm’s part, making hybe the sole owner of belift.
this would mean cj enm seems okay to stream as they are no longer connected to hybe or belift.
•* in regards to gfriend: yerins solo music under sublime and yuju’s music under connect is safe to stream.
•** in regards to blackpink: lisa’s solo work under lloud, jennie’s music under odd atelier, and jisoo’s future music under blissoo is safe to stream. rosé is now under the blacklabel and therefore NOT safe to stream.
below is the first song released by each member under their new companies. that song and any songs released afterwards are safe to stream. any songs released before them are NOT safe to stream.
• lisa: rockstar • jennie: mantra • jisoo: -
•*** in regards to got7: jackson’s music under sublime is safe to stream.
it is also recommend to boycott companies under kakao* (starship, ist, edam, highup, bluedot) for the same reasons, but it is hard to boycott those distributed by kakao as they distribute huge chuck of kpop music, so focusing on the specific companies is easier.
please note that if you google if a company is under kakao, sometimes the ai overview that always pops up will “yes, _ is a label distributed by kakao”, which isn’t fully wrong, but could be confusing, because it kind of looks like it’s saying a company is under kakao when it isn’t.
this does not happen to all companies, but as i stated above, it can make things a little confusing when it does happen.
