full disclosure: a) i've seen this movie before (many times), and b) "why did it take you two days to watch this" I STARTED IT AT 10:35PM!!!! AND IT'S AN HOUR AN FOURTY MINUTES!!! so

anywho, if you're wondering how i settled on watching this tonight, here's my process:

• spin the alphabet wheel (link it in the notes page on my archive)
• write down all the things starting with "p" on my list
• spin a wheel with all of THOSE things
• get "any of the persona games"
• think "man, i really don't want to play anything.. i just wanna watch somethin"
• spin again
• get professor layton
• WIN!!!
• "why didn't you just pick professor layton" i had to spin the wheel. you wouldn't get it.

anyway i love this movie... shoutout to my mutual who loved don paolo on my old account that got locked.... i miss u every day oomf.

but omg this means i get to geek out about one of my favorite series!!!! i played my first professor layton game in late 2020, i think because i was into ace attorney at the time & there's a layton and ace attorney crossover game (which i still haven't played, all these years later...)!!

omg janice... nana mizuki does such a good job doing her singing.... she also voices paz in the japanese dub of metal gear solid peace walker which is very funny to me. (in english paz's voice is tara strong aka twilight sparkle which is even funnier)

ANYWAY i love the layton series so so so much. i met some of my best friends through layton (and ace attorney but we're not here to talk about ace attorney)... i think my favorite of the original trilogy is pandora's box (yes i played the european dub... LUKE SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER) and my favorite of the prequel trilogy is probably azran legacy, but i really do love them all!!!!!!!!! (it's just that desmond sycamore and claire foley are two of my favorite one-game-only characters LOL)

but oh my goooooooooooood i think i cried at pretty much every layton game. THEYRE SO GOOD please play them (play the british english dub if you do) (luke sounds so fucked up in the american dub)

ANYWAY!! ENOUGH BACKSTORY!!! hi emmy. she is driving a car right now. i love emmy. she is a lesbian to me. shes just like me for real. ohhh i love this one shot when emmy's talking about how she researched the eternal life thing and then they stop the car for a second to let some sheep cross the road it's so pretty... i love the english countryside i really do miss it (i lived in an english village for 5 years)

stop luke is literally so cute in this movie. HES SO SILLY... HES LIKE MY NEPHEW.....

omg descole HES SUCH A GOOD VILLAIN... love him so much.... his voice actor does such a good job

anyway this is probably my favorite non-vocal piece in this whole movie it's SO pretty. (it's called "the detragan's echoes: whistler's theme" if it ever gets deleted off of youtube)

OHHH I FIGURED OUT WHY MY LIST IS CENTERED IT'S BECAUSE I TRIED TO ATTACH THE IMAGE. i'm just gonna clip the damn thing and stick it on youtube or something

sorry i just sat through the reveal and didnt have much to say (was also making a shitty amv on windows movie maker) but omg descole reveals hit plot... hes so silly (criminaL)

okay spoilers for azran legacy ahead (and maybe the whole prequel trilogy) but oh my goddddd i like Get descole. like i have a younger sister who's better than me at everything and if she solved something like this when it was work i'd been doing for YEARS i would also go batshit like. descole i understand you. your younger brother is not better than you. you wreck that shit girl

anyway i really hope we see descole in the new layton game (new world of steam) IM SO EXCITED FOR IT YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!!!!!

EVERYONE SHUT UP it's luke's theme that's only in the movie and in NONE of the games. IT GOES SO HARD ITS SO SILLY IT SUITS HIM

SWORD FIGHTTTTTTTTT i love this scene even if descole looks a little silly without his coat/cape like. he looks so scrawny

i love this whole vocal arrangement but i think my two fave vocal tracks from this movie are eien to utahime (the eternal diva) and omoide no record (record of memories), only one of which has played so far i think.

rest in fucking pieces descole :pray:

anyway iirc "janice" (melina) sings it with her dad after the dust settles and then she DIES and its really sad (i think ive cried about this movie before)

:( this movie always makes me sad like. for most of this movie i was doing other stuff in the background but from the second melina woke up i watched the whole thing silently like :sob:

i think melina and janice were lesbians btw. #Dykes4Ever

starts crying really hard i love that movie. genuinely one of my fave movies ever. highly recommend (if me rambling about the whole thing hasn't spoiled it for you)!!!
