- a la mort (French) - to the death, or unto death together
- absurdism - the philosophical school of thought stating that the efforts of humanity to find inherent meaning will ultimately fail (and hence are absurd) because the sheer amount of information as well as the vast realm of the unknown make certainty impossible
- acatalepsy - state of being impossible to understand; Philosophy, sceptic doctrine that knowledge cannot be certain
- acedia - a state of listlessness or torpor, of not caring or not being concerned with one's position or condition in the world

- carpe diem (Latin) - seize the day
- cafune (Portuguese) – to repeatedly run your fingers through someone’s hair. Usually done in a soft and affectionate manner.
- déjà vu - the experience of being certain that you have experienced or seen a new situation previously – you feel as though the event has already happened or is repeating itself. The experience is usually accompanied by a strong sense of familiarity and a sense of eeriness, strangeness, or weirdness. The “previous” experience is usually attributed to a dream, but sometimes there is a firm sense that it has truly occurred in the past.

- existence - comes the Latin word “exeo,” which means “I go out.” We are familiar with the word “Exit,” on doors in public buildings where the word means that one may go out of the building through this door. To exist, then, means to go outside of one’s present and past self towards a future self which is freely chosen.

- fanaa (Arabic, Urdu) - term for "dissolution" or "annihilation" (of the self); means to dissolve the ego self, while remaining physically alive
- floccinaucinihilipilification - the estimation of something to be worthless
- forelsket (Norwegian) - the euphoria you experience when you are first falling in love
- hedgehog’s dilemma - also the porcupine dilemma, is an analogy about the challenges of human intimacy. It describes a situation in which a group of hedgehogs all seek to become close to one another in order to share their heat during cold weather. However, once accomplished, they cannot avoid hurting one another with their sharp quills. They must step away from one another. Though they all share the intention of a close reciprocal relationship, this may not occur for reasons which they cannot avoid.
- koi no yokan (Japanese) - the sense upon first meeting another person that the two of them are going to fall in love. Differs from the idea “love at first sight” in that it does not imply that the feeling of love exists, rather it refers to the knowledge that a future love is inevitable.
- l'espirit de l'escalier (French) - literally "spirit of the stairway"; the act of thinking of a clever comeback when it is too late to deliver it
- Lethe - a river in the Greek underworld that, when drunk from, makes souls forget the sufferings of life; oblivion or something to make you enter oblivion and forget
- litost (Czech) - a state of torment created by the sudden sight of one’s own misery
- mamihlapinatapei (Yaghan) - a look shared by two people, each wishing that the other will offer something that they both desire but are unwilling to suggest or offer themselves. A slightly different interpretation of the meaning also exists: It is that look across the table when two people are sharing an unspoken but private moment. When each knows the other understands and is in agreement with what is being expressed. An expressive and meaningful silence.

- ya’aburnee (Arabic) - literally “you bury me.” It is the declaration of one’s wishes that they will die before another person because it would be impossible to live without them
