confidence w/ answering these most basic/common initial questions ⇒ able to progress more quickly and easily into deeper or more interesting/general conversation (+ also give confidence from the outset to convince 相手 to speak to me as close as possible to a native speaker).

these things can be predictable, so i might as well plan to do them perfectly and naturally (then enabling me to move on to other things).

• how long have you been studying japanese?
• what's the most difficult part about learning japanese?
