• I am deeply afraid of being struck by lightning. I refuse to go outside during a thunderstorm and if I do, I make sure to have on a pair of rubber-soled shoes to possibly prevent myself from being completely electrocuted.
  • I have the same middle name as my maternal grandmother.
  • I'm the only one in my immediate family who does not have a birthday in spring. My dad's birthday is in March, my brother's in April, and my mom's is in May. I was born in December.
  • The first CD that I bought for myself was the single to the Spice Girls' song "Too Much".
  • When I was twelve years old, I looked up Sarah Dessen's phone number in my local phone book and I called her and interviewed her for my school's newspaper.

  • Practically every summer since I was six or seven years old, I've attempted to write a novel.
  • The first chapter book that I read on my own was an abridged copy of Little Women.
  • I have a piece of pencil lead stuck in my left middle finger. It got there during a playground scuffle in fourth grade.
  • I don't pluck/wax my eyebrows regularly. I don't mind having fuller brows, but I could get in the habit of filling the bare spots.
  • When I was five years old, I had a ridiculous crush on the cartoon character Underdog.
  • I was scared of E.T. when I was a kid, and I didn't see the movie until I was about nineteen. The strangest part about that is the fact that we've had the movie on VHS since I was a little kid, but I had never seen the movie all the way through.
  • I went to a Baptist preschool and then went to Catholic school from kindergarten through seventh grade--but I'm neither Baptist nor Catholic. The church denomination that my family belongs to is the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (AMEZ/AME Zion). It's a mouthful, so if people ask I just say we're Methodist.
  • I am the only girl that my parents have raised. Before I was born two of my older cousins lived with my mom and dad, and they also helped with some of my grandmother's foster kids, mostly boys. Then I was born, and then my brother was born.
  • Once when I was in seventh grade, I wrote a "hit list" with the names of people I didn't like in my grade. I wasn't going to do anything to them, it was just a list of people that I disliked for various reasons. I was lucky it didn't get circulated for two reasons: 1.) I was in seventh grade in 1999 and 2.) regardless of intent, I don't think anyone would have brushed it off as it was the same year that Columbine happened.
  • I've had favorite TV shows before, but the first one that I (pretty) consistently watched from beginning to end was Lost.
  • The first national political candidate that I voted for was John Edwards during the 2004 primaries. The first presidential candidate that I voted for was John Kerry in the same year.
  • My dad taught me the words to "Yellow Submarine" when I was in kindergarten.
  • I've wanted to go to France ever since the first time I saw the movie Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!)
  • I've met bands and actors before and remained fairly cool, but when I was within about three feet of Adam Levine from Maroon 5, I screamed like a teenybopper at a Backstreet Boys concert circa 1998.
  • For a while in middle school and high school, I would reread the books The Giver and Diary of a Young Girl once a year.
  • One of my first celebrity crushes was on Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I used to sneak peeks at pictures of him in Teen Beat and magazines like it and hide them behind other magazines in the bookstore whenever I saw my dad coming.
  • I almost got my first kiss on the second-to-last day of sixth grade.
  • I was a photographer for my high school's yearbook and newspaper during my junior and senior years.
  • I've tried out for American Idol twice.
  • The first Disney movie I saw at a theater was The Little Mermaid. I was three.
  • I have been using LiveJournal since August 16, 2001.
  • My front teeth are crooked because I still used a pacifier until I was about three. I don't mind my teeth about 90% of the time.
  • I didn't have to get a tooth filled until I was twenty-one.
  • I made the vice president's list twice during my second year in college. Strangely enough, I feel like those two semesters I slacked more than anything but still got good grades. I have yet to recreate that success again.
  • I'm terrible at math, and hate myself a little for it and worry that I have an undiagnosed math-related learning disorder.
  • One of my favorite pieces of clothing growing up was a reversible raincoat that my grandma bought me at Goodwill. It was bright yellow on one side and red with white whale print on the other.
  • I've never been kissed.
  • My favorite word is "enamored", and I love it the most when it's spelled the British way, with the u. I think it looks prettier like that.
  • I went to an Obama rally before the Texas primaries in 2008.
  • I have cried every time that I've watched the movie The Fall.
  • I used to want to be a singer/songwriter and still have two notebooks full of song lyrics.
  • The number one song on the day I was born was "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister.
  • I got stung by a bee at day camp when I was eight years old.
  • My favorite Beatles song is "Something".
  • My room is painted lilac/light purple, because when I was eleven or so I begged my mom to let me paint my room that shade. When we moved from North Carolina to Texas, she had my dad paint my new bedroom that color so I'd feel less upset about the move.
  • I went to Niagara Falls with my Girl Scout troop during the summer of 1996. It's the only time I've gone to another country (Canada), and we went before you had to have a passport to cross the border.
  • I'm a Sagittarius.
  • I like eggs, but I have some sort of aversion to them. It's only when I eat eggs on their own (scrambled, hard-boiled, fried) that I have trouble.
