• typical rock instrumentals
• too much repetition (e.g. of a single lyric or a melodic line)
• male vocals
• vocal mixing that makes it difficult to hear the original voice/vocal texture
• BALLADS ...
• slow songs that are just like [piano + a bare vocal line] or [acou. guitar + vocals]
• too much rap in one song, screamo, country

things that i tend to like

• varied instrumentation
• orchestral/symphonic pop accompaniment
• jazz or jazz adjacent
• unfortunate addiction to hi-hat triplet
• female vocals
• pop music. ultimately. yeah
• funny noises, but sometimes when musicians use altered voice noises i get disturbed. i call it auditory uncanny valley
• 3/4 or 6/8 time signature or other triplet-focused rhythms
• singable stuff without being overly sexual or inane
• changing time signatures, or unusual time signatures

tbh it's hard to pick songs for a playlist because many of the things i like atm have other reasons i like them e.g. attachment to the performer, enjoyment of a specific performance, nostalgia.

• yama - am3:21 ; vocal texture! i like how instruments come in and out thruout the song
• urban zakapa ft. beenzino - thursday night ; i am ALWAYS trying to find more feelgood/upbeat songs like this one... the individual performers personalities and vocal skill ... the incredible harmonies ... the cute lyrics ... yah
• primary ft. sam kim & esna - ~42 ; same upbeat/feelgood vibes as thursday night! and good singers o7
• wotaku ft. miku - mafia ; idk what to say this song just hits hard. also gunshot noise makes me go :)
• ha:tfelt ft. gaeko - i wander ; makes me emo. the lilted rhythm, the dreamy atmosphere
• aiobahn ft. kocho - fragments ; i am, unfortunately, a fan of the Cute Anime Girl Voice Singing Songs. (i like a lot of yunomi's songs too.) the drop for this song is fun & i like the texture of the ...synth(?) used. the way the song steadily builds and bursts and builds again ...

special section

• kikuo (ft. miku) i look forward to every new release from kikuo, his instrumentation, exploration of different moods, layering of new sounds are all incredible and despite each song sounding very different from each other manage to retain a very kikuo-esque grasp on personality
• glass animals i got into glass animals from their first album when they were using some interesting instruments; their recent album is lighter on that but they alr got me addicted to the vocalist's croon. also the songs are just like? (vibes)
• tennis sooo retro and i LOVE the vocalist's voice so much. i really like their lyrics, i think theyre interesting and fun to sing to. i dont like All of their songs but i do like most of them ...
• the goat rodeo sessions this is the one thing that makes me go like "well, i do like some folk music" but then i try to find more and its all boring slow stuff? gross. anyway these guys fkin slap
