Inklings walking tour of Oxford1) from Carfax Tower (intersection of High St. and Cornmarket, Queen's Street, and St. Aldate's Street) to New College.
- Walk south, down the hill from the Carfax then turn left just past the church. The college across this quiet side street is Pembroke, where J.R.R. Tolkien spent twenty years as a fellow and Professor of Anglo-Saxon.
- go one block and turn right onto Brewer Street. The stone house on the left is the house in which Dorothy Sayers was born. Return to St. Aldate's and continue one more block.
- Cross the street and enter the great iron gates that lead to Christ church meadow, where Alice followed a white rabbit down a hole to Wonderland
- to the left is Christ Church College where Lord David Cecil spent his undergraduate days. The visitor's entrance is along this side wall.
- Follow the broad footpath along the side of the great stone walls of Christ Church. Turn left at the end of the wall and follow the footpath along the edge of the wall until you reach the iron gates. Go through the iron gates along the shaded footpath that leads to Merton Street.
- Turn right onto Merton street where you will find Merton College on the right. J.R.R. Tolkien moved to Merton College in 1945 with Hugo Dyson.
- turn right on Merton street until it turns left and reaches the High Street.
- On the left side of the street stands the University Examination Schools Building, where Lewis, Tolkien, and Cecil often lectured
- on the right is the Eastgate Hotel where Lewis and Tolkien met on Monday mornings for over twenty years until Lewis moved to Cambridge
- turn right on High Street and continue down the street. Cross the street and continue walking away from the Eastgate hotel. The imposing college and grounds on the left is Magdalen College where C.S. Lewis spent almost thirty years. Visitors enter by the main gate. Stroll along Addison's Walk.
- Upon leaving Magdalen, turn right at the gate and proceed along High Street. Enjoy the shops but pay attention to the gradually unfolding vista of the towers along High Street as they curve into view.
- within the grounds of St. Edmund (on the right) stands the ancient church building St. Peter's in the East, where Jack and Warnie Lewis went for Communion on Wednesday mornings.

2) From New College to Wadham College
- upon leaving New College, proceed along the lane away from St. Edmund. This lane goes under the Bridge of Sighs and ends opposite the iron-fence-enclosed yard of the Clarendon Building
- turn left on Catte Street. The tall building on the right with the massive oak gates is the Bodleian Library. Visitors may take a guided tour and see the Divinity School which Lewis considered the most beautiful room in Oxford. Upon leaving the Bodleian through the main gate, turn right and walk past the round Radcliffe Camera, a reading room of the Bodleian, to St. Mary the Virgin, the University Church. From this puplit Lewis preached "Learning in War-Time" and "The Weight of Glory."
