LEARNING BY EXAMPLE

You can either look at other people's covers (most will show the Famitracker reading on the YouTube vid) or read in the song directly using the NSF Importer Famitracker mod (http://rainwarrior.ca/projects/nes/nsfimport.html). You may even be able to download the Famitracker file directly, for someone's original song (if they're cool with that)

8BitDanooct1's tutorial also show you how to read into Audacity if you want to work out from the original songs by ear.
