When people break, what do they become? Shreds or shards?

Men are not. But we, we are perpetually broken, like cracking ice beneath weight of additional snow. Like cool glass bottles against hot concrete pavement. Like lead pencil tips and fingernails. Again, again, again, again, again.

When we break, what do we become? Shards or splinters?
