MIM'S WORDS OF WISDOM: buy a mask base(entire face) made of plastic from spotlight or similar ($5)
- thick liquid latex from fitch's chemist
- acryllic paint in a colour a bit darker than your colour of choice
- latex sponges (chemist or makeup stores) (triangluar or anything with a flat surface
- craft knife
- talcum powder and a small brush
Mix a bit of latex and a bit of paint to achieve a colour slightly lighter than the colour you want (it will dry a tad darker) paint a layer over the plastic face mask (obviously only the bits you will use, i.e. for robin and riddler I only painted the top half of the mask. If I was doing batgirl I would paint down to the lip probably! side allowance etc)
wait 10-20 minutes for a thin layer to dry before adding the next. if it's thick it'll take like a day to dry which is stupid! keep adding layers until you have ~20 layers or until you deem it thick enough. DO NOT add layers while the underneath layer is still drying otherwise it gets lumpy and sad.
when you're done, use the craft knife to cut the shape of your mask out. peel away a tiny bit of the corner, and add a bit of talcum powder and brush it towards the sticky bits to remove it without stretching. REMOVE VERY CAREFULLY. if something needs fixing, you can add latex ontop of it later (i.e. if it tears...but it won't look perfect without a large amount of skill...!)
stick to face with spirit gum avoid eyebrows and facial hair, and hair in general. also avoid cuts/scratches. they WILL reopen when the mask is removed.
(use the latex sponges to paint the latex on otherwise it will be sad) also it's totally non toxic and you CAN do it without the sponges but don't use paint brushes I used my finger? would have worked better with a completely flat surface though
