- polteageist (the design of this pokemon reminds me of the Portuguese tile art azulejo, and also because portugal was the first *european* country to introduce tea to *europe*)
- yamask, galarian (Yamask retains its memories from before it became a Pokémon. Its backstory reminds me of a folk ritual from portugal, careto. Part of the festival symbolizes winter's end and the beginning of spring (yamask initially being a human?) It is a wild and noisy festival similarly to how if someone were possessed by yamask upon wearing its mask or how aggressive yamask gets when its mask is taken away)
- dachsbun (there is a bread from portugal called pão de deus meaning bread of god. In November 1755 Lisbon has suffered a terrible earthquake meaning there was a shortage of food. People begged for food from neighboring towns in the name of God, hence the name bread of god. There has always been a religious ties with pastry in portugal, like how nuns would bake goods for convent incomes. In the bulbapedia, it is also said that dachsbun is historically treasured by farming villages)
- bellibolt (diverse amphibians of the Alentejo region in portugal)
I think Portugal would be a pokemon researcher as common jobs people would have in Portugal relate to technology/healthcare/etc (also a reference to the age of discovery lol)
I wish the 9th generation had more pokemon inspired by portugal
