People only speak english now in the philippines because of American colonialism. Same with the spanish and japanese the americans have done the very similar things to destroy the country. i know a couple of my friends who speak the dialects, but a lot of the filipinos i meet don’t even know how to speak filipino anymore which would be like the national language of the country. Shit, even with the culture and traditions people are forgetting because the country is slowly becoming more Americanized. But what makes me angrier is when certain people themselves praise america so much that they forget what they did to them. From what ive seen those people say, its because america helped the Philippines get out of spanish colonial rule and paved ways for filipinos to live a better life in america (many filipinos live in america now, it was a way to escape from their country due to how scarred it is). but because of this people forget and especially downplay the actual atrocities the americans did to filipinos. Same with the japanese and spanish, they sexually abused them, raped them, enslaved them, massacred them, put them in concentration camps, labeled them as SAVAGES, and oh one specific example—they literally put them in fucking cages/circuses as sort of animals for American entertainment. thats why its so fucking insane to me how those filipinos just so freely glorify america like they’re a savior. Because Just like MANY other fucking countries the USA “saved”, America only saved them so they can have the Philippines to control all to themselves, they didn’t free them. they made them a COLONY!!!!! The USA is still not any better with current politics. As I’ve said before filipinos have been immigrating to America for years. And from the VERY BEGINNING, Americans saw and treated filipinos as nothing but Savages. Animals, people who should be treated less than a human. It is still happening today with the current racism driven immigration laws taking action in the US. So really, why??? Why would you go defending the country that has had history of ruining your country and many other countries in ways that it has left a great mark on it??? You can acknowledge the good things America has done, but you really cannot silence or forget all the things it has done to ruin your country.
