shang qinghua was entrusted to deliver the yearly contribution gift to the king under the surface in the name of his fishing village. he sets sail in his little boat towards the traditional offering site, but a storm intercepts his way and tosses him into the icy waters. never in his wildest dreams would have shang qinghua thought he was going to be saved by no other than the king he was bringing the gift to.

“your timing certainly is impeccable, my lord,” wei wuxian groans, rubbing his back. “what brings you here for the second time in as many nights…?”

“i left my cloak,” mobei-jun says, shooting wei-wuxian a dirty look as the bird demon shrugs his robe back on.

“you certainly did!” shang qinghua exclaims, crossing his arms quite crossly. “you can’t just leave your things everywhere, my king!”

_mobei-jun’s hard stare refocuses on shang qinghua, and he can’t help but shrink back, hurriedly rummaging around in his qiankun pouch for the offending garment. as soon as shang qinghua finds it, mobei-jun takes it from his hands and throws it over his shoulders, breathing in a deep sigh as if it relieved him to have it there again. if you miss it so much, why did you even leave it behind?! shang qinghua almost wants to say, but he is quite fond of his head, actually, and would rather mobei-jun not take it off his shoulders, thankyouverymuch. _

shang qinghua is tasked with escorting the leader of the yiling carrion tribe to gusu, and it'd be fine if only mobei-jun would stop poking his (gorgeous, beautiful, drop-dead handsome) head in!

there’s a legend among the people of the north that speaks of a she-wolf that once saved a child, and gave birth to a babe of her own that was neither human nor animal - but both. the northerns still whisper of the lineage and pay tithes in their honor.

shang qinghua thinks it’s an intriguing enough tale, and plans to use it as the basis for his latest story. when he decides to enter the northern forest in search of inspiration, however, he gets more than he bargained for.

shang qinghua is ill and mobei-jun worries.

waking up in the body of a child one time was bad enough, but to do it twice in a row was more than slightly irritating. when shang qinghua blinked his eyes open several moments ago to find that he was once again too short, too soft, and held too tightly, he had to fight back tears of mixed despondence and frustration- that is, before he realized who, exactly, he was.

(a harrowing tale of shrinking, growing, and bullshitting the answers as to why your face is different than the one you usually have)

shang qinghua finds that when you marry someone, you basically marry the family he comes from, which can be very, very terrifying.

shang qinghua nods quickly, only relaxing once mobei-jun finally breaks the gaze in order to lay right back down on his side, hand propping up his head.

then, he does something nearly terrifying-- he smiles, lips quirking in a way that begets a sort of malice capable of sending a shiver right down shang qinghua’s spine. “good. others are not to touch what is mine.”

(or: 5 times mobei-jun surprises shang qinghua + one time shang qinghua surprises him.)

alternative title: 5 times people pay attention to shang qinghua's injury + 1 time people realize they shouldn't have.

it was almost as if mobei jun, lord of the northern demon realm and right-hand man to demon king luo binghe, was trying to — no! absolutely not! it couldn’t be!

if shang qinghua didn’t know any better, he would think this was mobei jun trying to gain his favor!

the master-and-servant relationship had changed in different ways after he returned, and shang qinghua was curious to see how far the changes went.

as a demon, mobei jun didn't need a whole lot of sleeping. not to say that he couldn’t sleep, he just chose not to, because sleeping sounded like a waste of time. it was useless and downright dangerous. no one ever knows when the enemy arrives; you needed to be on your toes always.

the rare occasion that he did go to sleep was when he was injured. he just had to; there was something about sleep that made his injury went away faster, yet he was unnerved whenever it happened. going to sleep when injured and laid himself wide open for attack? not the best idea. that was why it was only natural that he reacted badly when he had fainted in front of shang qinghua that time.

mobei jun has always been a little weird (demons, you know?) but lately shang qinghua has just been completely baffled. just what is going through mobei jun's mind?

mobei jun is about to tell him that he’s fine when shang qinghua quietly says, sounding stricken, “he’s melting.”

hearing that, mobei jun levels shang qinghua with his most unimpressed stare. shang qinghua notices, and he asks, “what is it? what happened?” he pauses his fanning and sends mobei jun a baffled look. “my king, did i do something wrong? was it something i said? wait, don’t — “

mobei jun turns onto his side and pretends he doesn’t hear shang qinghua’s pleas for him to turn around.

-

4 times shang qinghua talks without realizing it + 1 time mobei jun responds back.

mobei jun gets a smutty plot device to the face and goes straight to shang qinghua to help him fix it.

one of these days, shang qinghua is going to figure out how to fight his modern day past-self. with his tears.

shang qinghua found mobei jun (trying) to make noodles at his place.

shang qinghua was sitting by the inn's desk, cooling his sweat covered face with a fan. the summer heat was almost unbearable, especially after spending so many weeks in mobei jun's freezing cold palace. he wished for nothing but a pool filled with water, or the more loose clothes of the modern world; but deep in his heart, what he wanted most was a big, icy popsicle…

the sudden realization that this description perfectly fit his king's dick sent shivers down his spine.

during the invasion from the dragons, the cowardly raccoons had been the first to submit.
