• Day 1 Your favorite song: "On a Neck On a Spit" Grizzly Bear- I feel naming my "favorite song" is limiting, as favorite songs change as frequently as people change. But, as of right now, On a Neck, On a Spit is my absolute favorite. It is very multi-faceted, with many different emotions and feelings attached to it. It's slow and haunting and one point, and urgent yet beautiful at others. I feel dumb that it took so long for me to find this song, especially since Grizzly Bear is one of my favorite bands.
  • Day 2 Your least favorite song: "Don't Stop Believing" Journey- For some perverse reason, this song is a staple at most Sweet Sixteens, and is a favorite of most of my peers. I used to like it, but the constant repetition of it made me see the light. It's generic and has no musical merit. I'll never understand why Glee's creators are so smitten with it.
  • Day 3 A song that makes you happy: "Lessons Learned" Matt and Kim- Though any Matt and Kim song has the ability to make me happy, this one has consistently been there for me (metaphorically speaking), and thus, holds a special place in my heart. It's uplifting, and motivating and makes me want to live, and I mean really live. Whenever I get worrisome or nervous about something, I just repeat the line, "Thinking about tomorrow won't change how I feel today" in my head, and I know everything will be alright.
  • Day 4 A song that makes you sad: "Hallelujah" Rufus Wainwright- Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah. (And that's all I have to say about that.)
  • Day 5 A song that reminds you of someone: "Birdhouse in Your Soul" They Might Be Giants- My best friend, Jessica loves TMBG, and she introduced them to me in 7th grade, so of course any song by them makes me think of her. All of their songs are fun and spastic and little juvenile, which is pretty much Jess summed up. I remember singing this song on the bus home from school with her, and loving every moment of it.
  • Day 6 A song that reminds you of somewhere: "Fine for Now" Grizzly Bear- I discovered Grizzly last August, right before I was to go to the beach, so the the entire Veckatimest album was playing throughout. Two Weeks is one of my favorites from the album, and has a beachy feel to it, very calm and serene.
  • Day 7 A song that reminds you of a certain event: "Dance my Pain Away" Wye Oak- This July, I attended A 3 week CTY-CLI Civic Education in Baltimore, Maryland. It was a completely life-changing experience, to say the least. I met so many amazing people and had the time of my life. I also learned about today's issues and experienced them first hand. My instructor played this song for us during class and everytime I hear, I think of not only the memories of CTY, but of the hardships so many people go through every day.
  • Day 8 A song you know all of the words to: " Runs in the Family" Amanda Palmer: I love Amanda Palmer and all of the work she had done, and this song is no exception. It is extremely angsty and wordy, so I find it a majro accomplishment to memorize the lyrics.
  • Day 9 A song that you can dance to: "You Spin me Right Round" Dead or Alive- I LOVE 80's one hit wonders, and this one is one of my favorites. I love Pee Burns and the song is just infectious. I will never be afraid to bust a move to this.
  • Day 10 A song that makes you fall asleep: "Anthems of a Seventeen Year Old Girl" Broken Social Scene- This song is very mellow and melancholy, but it always manages to calm me. The whispering voices and haunting strings are so beautiful I cant help but be addicted to this song.
  • Day 11 A song from your favorite band: "Girl Anachronism" The Dresden Dolls: I've loved the Dresden Dolls for over two years now and still religiously follow any music related to them. All of their songs are so emotional and dark and beautiful, and Girl Anachronism was the song of theirs that really made me fall in love with them.
  • Day 12 A song from a band that you hate: "Fireflies" Owl City: Who can take this guy seriously? He is just some lonely, mopey dude who spends his time noodling around with syntheizers in his basement and pretending he's part of a band with actual people. (I'm not the only one who thought Owl City had more than one member). But I have to give him one thing- I have never heard a "band" so brazenly mimic Postal Service and suck this much!
