• i've started work on another transcription project,, i love looking at these cards, sometimes i'll just sit here and stare at the latin name for a prehistoric hominid written in some archaeologist's stilted handwriting and be like. yes. i am finally living my dream of being evie from the mummy. we made it
• listening to tchaikovsky's pas de deux and fondly remembering all the times i wept watching lily on the stage, every year another nutcracker, so radiant in her costume, spinning and leaping through the air, every sweep of her arms and legs a glittering masterwork of the human form, wanting to grab the person sitting next to me and whisper, that's my best friend! that's her, isn't she the most beautiful girl in the world!!
• the audacity of mad men to have an episode take place in 1969 and mention both indianapolis and dresden but NOT have kurt vonnegut make an appearance... feeling hurt and a little betrayed !

good things about the month

• bundling up and going skating w justie at the park; my teddy coat!! i missed wearing it, my warmest comfort; the first snowfall of the year; learning to play chess with mom; mad men!! i love you pete campbell, my sweet bratty darling; falling asleep with whatever vonnegut book i'm reading beneath my pillow; kurt's letters to jane; winter sunsets; baking an (extremely lopsided) cake for marion's birthday; cozy sweaters; kate zambreno; the little birds that hop around on the ground outside, searching intently for seeds; practicing game after game of chess and realizing hours have passed; photographs of the greats surrounded by piles of their books and scholarship: sontag, chomsky, foucault; christmas cards in the mail; writing, as always, as always, and finally a breakthrough; watching friends at the end of a long day, i adore you rachel green; holiday drinks from the coffee shop; trips to target with justie; the way the winter air pools in your lungs; listening to roy orbison's pretty paper on repeat; christmas day with the family; new espresso maker mwahaha; daydream believer for davy's birthday <3
