obsessions
- marginalia, especially in the theory books i've taken out of the library, the markings of a lineage of students who have gone through this class before me... thinking about the marginalia in my professor's book that he gave me to look through, little notes scribbled in pink colored pencil...
- not to be self-centered but. the Specific brand of comments i get everyday on my outfits..... LIKE the number of times i've been told i look like a librarian or an academic or (esp. in my archives class) an archivist... I Am Thriving. there's nothing better than a blouse and a long skirt and a soft cardigan to keep u warm... add socks + a little pair of heels and you're all set!
- umm.... my halloween costume. the fact that absolutely no one was surprised that i entered the party dressed as a b-25 bomber pilot ("that's some catch that catch-22!")....... why did i look so GOOD
moments
- taking the train into the city every week! watching the slowly changing trees go whirling by... wandering the familiar streets, my feet always taking me to the art museum, where hours are spent in awe of rembrandt, of vermeer, of all my dear flemish artists, whose names i recognize like old friends from the days of art history... cozying up in the cafe with roland barthes and an iced coffee, noting down a sentence or two, but mostly losing myself in the gentle rush of his words, until it's time again to return to the art, and find myself in front of cézanne, el greco, and the master of the catholic kings, whose name is lost to history but who was given such a fantastic sobriquet in return...
