- BVP - Bavarian People's Party. Conservative, split from the Centre Party in 1918.
- Centre - Founded in 1871 to represent Catholic interests in the predominantly Protestant Reich. Moderate.
- DDP - Democratic Party. Moderate, formed in 1918. Development of the old Progressive People's Party. Included so members of the National Liberal Party.
- DNVP - German Nationalist People's Party. Supported the conservative values of Wilhelmine Germany. Ultra-conservative.
- DVP - German People's Party. Conservative, included the more conservative members of the National Liberals.
- KPD - Communist Party, first named the Spartacist League. Left-wing, formed 1917.
- NSDAP - National Socialist German Workers' Party or the Nazi Party. Extreme right-wing, ultra-conservative, founded in 1919.
- SPD - Social Democratic Party or Majority Socialists. Moderate.
- USPD - Independent Socialists. Left-wing, formed 1917 after a split with the SPD.
