I recently asked friends to send me one suggestion for books and authors they think I would like.

  • the coldfire trilogy by c s friedman, if you havent read them already. (spookshow42/brandy)
  • and sunshine by robin mckinley. (spookshow42/brandy)
  • Spares by Micheal Marshall Smith. Go here for a review. http://www.curledup.com/spares.htm (the Jimmy/Jimmy)
  • "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale"

by Jenna Jameson, Neil Strauss, and Neil Strauss (Hardcover - Aug 17, 2004). I found this book to be extremely insightful. It made me feel fuzzy all over. (Hannis)

  • The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson. Great Sci-fi/cyberpunk book. (Allisandro/Dan)
  • I was just on an Amy Tan kick. Saving Fish From Drowning and the Hundred Secret Senses. love them (Jamiee)
  • okay, one more: Red Earth and Pouring Rain (by Vikram Chandra). Anytime a story involves a warrior reincarnated as a typewriting monkey you just know its good stuff :) There is soooo much more to it than that, but that was enough to win my interest initially.(jamiee again)
  • My first thought was Sun Szu Art of War, but with further thought I'll say Zen Flesh Zen Bones turtle press I'll look for the author.

Trying to be one with the universe. (The Jefe)

  • I just read "Genghis" by Conn Iggulden. Not destined to be a classic, but entertaining enough and just enough of a fact/fiction ratio in telling the story to keep it interesting. Other than that, these guys from the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints have offered to send me a book that they say will enlighten my whole life. You're welcome to first dibs after I unlock the secrets of the universe. (Unless I take it with me on my first mission.) (Ty/Lothar)
  • item George R.R. Martin- A Game of Thrones.
  • Neil Gaiman and Teri Pratchet- Good Omens.
  • Piers Anthony- Incarnations of Immortality series. And Xanth. Everyone likes Xanth.
  • Anne McCaffrey- Dragonriders of Pern.
  • Dunno what kinda book you're looking for, but "Start Where You Are" by Pema Chodron (Buddhist Nun) changed my life. (Cassandra)
  • If you're looking for martial / life pursuits "Living the Martial Way" is good. If a good comedic but intelligent read is more up your alley. (Cassandra)
  • item read "Lamb - The life of Christ According to his Childhood Pal Biff" by Christopher Moore. Brilliant stuff! (Casssandra)
  • For a general fantasy type author I would suggest Terry Brooks or Robert Jordan. They have some fantastic series under their belts. For a great history/love story author I would suggest Diana Gabaldon- she writes about scotland and does a great job. You can find a lot of her work all over the place. Also she went to NAU and graduated as a biologist and now writes. Her work is really good. Umm some others that I generally read are people like Stephen King, Michael Crichton and Robin Cook. (Jenna)
  • My suggestion would be anything by Mark Nepo (although his "Book of Awakening" is probably my favorite). He's a poet with Buddhist leanings who's a cancer survivor. He has some interesting takes on life and he writes beautifully. (Selene)
  • Get Fuzzy, Darby Conley (Han/Tiffany)
  • Dawnthief by James Barclay just finished it, and can even loan it to you. As the reviews on Amazon say, blood, sex, and magic, with a mercenary gang called The Raven (motto: "Kill But Never Murder") I enjoyed it. (Kim)
  • "The Door Into Summer" by Heinlein is really good, ( as are all of his books that I've read). I thought it had the best explanations for why time travel could avoid paradox, really well thought out. Hope you are well. (Samusjones/Vanya)
  • Evasion by crimethinc.
  • The Game by Neil Strauss
  • project superpowers from dynamite entertainment
