  • Starting the year without a hangover, in a rather good mood despite the heartbreak. Finding the motivation to walk 2km to the public bath and swim laps for an hour.
  • We went to the Chinese hot pot restaurant for Frank's birthday and I was so proud when I was allowed to take Fabi's dog Lucy outside for a minute. I need to be a pet owner... Sigh.
  • Matcha latte as the first drink of the day.
  • Hogwarts feminists
  • Spending hours in front of the computer in some kind of planning bliss. Writing lists, setting goals, making plans, researching options.
  • Getting a library card, walking along the bookshelves, finding something interesting every few metres. Going home with a backpack full of books. I missed this!
  • Stroking the dark green velvet cushion.
  • The huge white full moon. On the first day of the year.
  • Grinding coffee beans in the machine at the supermarket for the first time. I keep going there to squeeze and smell the bags anyway but this time I actually opened one and filled its content into the grinder.
  • January is such a magical month for me. I usually start out the year intensely motivated - I write lists and set goals, I'm active, read a lot, I book all kinds of cultural events and workshops, I eat healthy food and enjoy cooking. It's such a cliché, I know, but I love love love fresh starts. You know what, I'll take it. Even though everyone else and their grandma uses this date to set goals for themselves - better now than never.
  • Netflix and chill with Frank (Fargo!!), playing board games until 3 in the morning. Drama-free. Actually talking a little about personal things again.
  • I came across neuroticism in a book and did some research. There is a very interesting scale and I can relate with a test result I got.
  • Getting my ratty hair chopped off! It feels so much better now even though it's very short for me.
  • Falling in love with the cat Rowdi at the animal shelter. I mean, I cried afterwards and had to admit that it was a bad idea to go there since I can't really take a cat home with me at the moment, but he was adorable.
  • Getting new pens and pencils at Gerstaecker (such a dangerous place for me - I ALWAYS buy something).
  • Frannerd is illustrating 31 T-shirts this month! I want to do that, too!
  • Cooking! It's easy and creative. I hardly ever follow recipes, I have a more free-style approach. I made lentil dal with vegetables and Vietnamese food - pho and summer rolls.
  • Reading about happiness in the sunshine. Still in bed. First thing in the morning.
  • "Once I started, it all just flowed." - Golubka's self-care interviews.
  • The realisation that it's much easier to do something daily than only sometimes (thanks to The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin). I also learned that "the most reliable predictor of not being lonely is the amount of contact with women. Time spent with men doesn't make a difference." And that depressed people have just as many happy experiences as happy people - they are just much worse at remembering them. Happy people tend to remember good experiences - depressed people bad ones. Eventually the book also made me think about the Hawthorne effect which is a type of reactivity in which individuals modify an aspect of their behavior in response to their awareness of being observed - that means learning about a certain behaviour can actually change something!
  • Laughing about myself when I realised that I panicked when Listography.com was down for a few hours on Sunday. But: I should really make backups of my most important lists. It's crazy how much I rely on them.
  • Paying exactly 77,77€ at the gas station - at gas pump number 7!
  • Being caressed by warm flowing water in the outside pool at Südbad. Listening to Mas Ysa.
  • (Re)watching every single season of Lovesick on Netflix.
  • Taking a walk during my lunch break. Meeting a bobtail!
  • The fact that I can walk/cycle through a proper forest if I wanna buy groceries in Neuried. Feels a bit like Little Red Riding Hood...
  • iShop - the biggest Asian supermarket I have seen so far here in Munich - they've got everything. I only wanted to buy umeboshi for 5€ and came out with a 50€ bill...
  • Wearing two pairs of socks at the same time.
  • Wolf Alice live in concert.
  • Nein, danke.
  • Holographic goat stickers.
  • Nils: "Keks, Frau S.?" - "Nein danke, ich will doch aussiehen wie Frau Kramer! / Nils: "Das schaffen Sie schon noch, bis ich die Schule verlasse!" // Whee, he's got faith in me! More than 3 years to go... but an ambitious goal!
  • 3WW live in concert. Alt-J are awesome. Also: sneaking upstairs to get better seats.
  • Being kissed on the forehead. Still. After all that.
  • Pussy Riot Theatre.
  • Being alone (together) in the cinema!
  • You want perfect eye make-up even after taking a shower and swimming 60 laps? Goggles do the trick!
  • Watching my holographic nail polish sparkle underwater and seeing rays of sunlight on a bright afternoon (especially great because only old folks occupy the pool at 2pm).
  • The outdoor swimming pool at Dantebad. Fresh air, sunshine, 50m laps, underwater handstands.
  • Songs of the month: Júníus Meyvant - Color Decay / Lord Huron - Fool For Love / Wolf Alice - Sadboy (actually the entire Visions of a Life album) / the FIFA18 soundtrack / Alt-J - Deadcrush / Superorganism - Something For Your M.I.N.D. and Everybody Wants to Be Famous / Kat Frankie - Home and Bad Behaviour / Mine - Essig auf Zucker / Yaeji - Drink I'm Sippin On //
