  • Conscious people are checked before unconscious people.

  • 1. Prepare protective barriers (gloves + breathing barriers.
  • 2. Check the scene, obtain consent, call 911 IF NECESSARY.
  • 3. INTERVIEW (Introduce yourself):
    • Persons NAME.
    • What HAPPENED?
    • Do you feel PAIN?
    • ALLERIES?
    • MEDICAL CONDITIONS?
    • MEDICATIONS?
    • Last time EAT/DRINK?
  • 4. Check person head to toe (child is TOE to HEAD).
    • VISUAL inspect the body.
    • Tell the person what you are going to do.
    • Look for obvious deformities/bleeding.
    • Medical ID bracelets.
  • 5. HEAD:
    • Scalp, eyes, ears, nose, PALPITATE HEAD, bruises.
    • Drowsy?
  • 6. Check SKIN and TEMPERATURE.
  • 7. NECK:
    • Ask if there is pain, then have them slowly move it.
  • 8. SHOULDERS:
    • Have them shrug.
  • 9. CHEST and ABDOMEN:
    • Take deep breath.
  • 10. ARMS:
    • Elbows, wrists, fingers.
  • 11. HIPS and LEGS:
    • Knees, ankles, toes.
  • 12. CARE FOR CONDITIONS FOUND (or help them up)
    • Keep comfortable.
    • Reassure.
    • Blanket.
