- If it's not absolutely ridiculously GP, it goes on my usable list. But only names I find completely usable in my top 25 and only names I would really actually use make it to my top 5.
- No alliterative combos in sound, though alliterative spellings are okay. E.g. Shira Sophie would be fine, but Songlark Sophia wouldn't be.
- No double middles or double-barrelled first names unless they're absolutely perfect in every way (i.e. generally I avoid them)
- No fully unisex or fully gender-switched combos. This includes names that are technically masculine but are now viewed as feminine/unisex, names that are fairly ambiguous, etc. E.g. (g) Piper Elena would be fine but (g) Piper Rowan would not. (b) Morrigan Rex would be fine, but (b) Morrigan Winter would not.
- No combos ending in the same sound that have the same (or close to the same) amount of syllables. E.g. Falcon Cianán wouldn't work.
- No names 5 syllables or more as first names, preferably none at all (4 syllable names are fine)
- There are certain stress & syllable patterns I prefer, but there are so many (with so many variables) I can't think of them all at the moment (and they're not hardfast rules all the time either) XD One example though: 2 syllable first name with stress on the first name -> pair it with a 2 syllable middle name with stress on the last syllable, 3 syllable middle name with stress on the middle syllable, or a 4 syllable middle name with stress on the 3rd syllable. E.g. Cleo Elif [KLEE-oh eh-LEEF], Cleo Aurora [KLEE-oh uh-ROAR-uh], Cleo Eleanora [KLEE-oh elle-uh-NORE-uh] NOT Cleo Ari
- No conflicting vowel/consonant sounds between the names combos (conflicting = hard to pronounce in a row and therefore disrupting the flow of the combo), though double consonants are fine (double vowels are not). E.g. Ara Everlie and Ara Artemis wouldn't work, but Falcon Nathaniel is fine. (Note that "H-" middle names most often count as names beginning with vowels for me. E.g. Ara Hermione wouldn't work for me.)
- No names with obvious/natural nicknames I HATE. E.g. Though I loooooooove Nathaniel, it'll never make my top 5 as a first name because I hate Nathan, Nate, and Niel and don't really love Nat. I only really like Natan but that's not an obvious choice like the others.
- No bad initials. E.g. I used to have the combo Phoenix Piper...then I realized the initials were PP XD I was considering several "S-" middles for Betony a long time ago too till I realized what the initials would be XD
- No trendy/unique spellings. I try to stick with the spellings of the language of origin whenever possible. E.g. Ciaran is awesome, Kieran is not.
Aaaaaand...that's about it :3 Eventually I'll be taking my surname into account, but I'm not married yet...or dating...or wanting to date at the moment... XD And my surname's going to change when I do get married (I want to get married eventually) so for now I'm not worried about it ^.^
