Transferring an account to another bank. How to do it when the bank raises fees? A bank account is an important thing. That's why most people open an account and don't change it for years, to avoid unnecessary paperwork or financial mistakes.

However, sometimes the change is forced, especially when banks drastically raise the prices of services for their regular customers. Only the new ones are tempted by big promotions. So why shouldn't you take advantage of this too?

Should I open a new personal account or transfer my old one? This is not an easy question, because it all depends on your needs. If you only use your account to receive your salary and pay in cash at the ATM in the shops, you can quickly change your personal account on your own. Just open an account with a bank that has a better offer, transfer funds to it and close the old account.

Remember to inform those most interested (e.g. your employer) about the change.

However, if you use your personal account intensively - you have your deposits there, standing orders, defined recipients - then it is worth asking your bank for mediation, which will complete the whole procedure within 5 working days.

How to transfer an account to another bank?

You must start the transfer of your personal account by opening an account with the new bank. Then in person - in a branch, by letter or through the transaction system in the new account, submit an application to transfer the account from another bank. It will not take more than 10 minutes to complete.

You will need, among other things, the series and number of your identity card, address, PESEL number, telephone number and e-mail address.

The bank can transfer on your behalf not only funds accumulated on your personal account, but also direct debits or standing orders. It can also send information about the change of your bank account to the most important institutions - ZUS and US, as well as notify your employer. To be able to do this, you must give him/her a power of attorney to do so.

Can I take my personal account number with me?

Unfortunately, it is not possible, because each bank uses a different numbering. Different parts of the account indicate the bank where you have your personal account and others indicate the branch where it was opened. Therefore, when you move your personal account to another bank, you have to reckon with the number change.

Note: you don't have to close your old account right away if you don't want to. Most do this to make sure they have notified everyone of the change in account number. However, even after closure, your money will be safe. Every bank number is unique. Once an account is closed, it does not go back into the pool of available numbers. Therefore, if a friend makes a transfer to your now closed account, they will get the money back into their account within a few days. If not, simply file a complaint with the bank.
