- . . . a random recollection of my childhood
- meet the robinsons — when i was a kid, i bought a secondhand dvd of this film from the nearest supply store in our neighborhood for fifteen pesos. i played it countless times on our player and kept it separate from my father's stash of horror films because it was very dear to me. i felt like if i put it next to the conjuring dvd, i would somehow be maltreating it. and then one day, i noticed scratches on the back so i pulled out a wet wipe and cleaned it. it never played again after that. it was my comfort film. not even my papa going abroad left me as devastated.
- doraemon — i always watched it on our old panasonic crt tv but it was the summer of 2015 when i began rewatching the first few episodes on 9anime. i never really stuck around long enough to reach the latest ones but i know i was watching it alongside detective conan. i stayed diligent with those series that when my old tablet got a virus and had to be repaired, i painstakingly wrote down every tab i had in my browser, including the last episode i had watched, hoping to pick up where i left off but somehow never returned to it with the same fervor. my mama still buys me anything that has doraemon's face on it though.
- water gel beads — in filipino, we called them kisses. mama used to keep a whole wine bottle full of them for display and i truly believed they were alive and reproducing on their own. she stopped buying the animal-shaped ones because they terrified me too much.
- rambutan — i used to be scared of these as a kid. my papa could never convince me to touch one. he told me it was a dragon's egg.
