chrome os bullshit
- idk legal stuff its their own software we should always assume we are being tracked. probably says something about our lives in the digital age too. advice: always assume you are being tracked. never assume what you create will be there forever.
- url link chrome://policy is blocked. points to lack of transparency in my opinion. source
- more secure internet is blocked. source: settings menu. "make it harder for people with access to your internet traffic to see which sites you visit. chrome os uses a secure connection to look up a site's ip address in the DNS" obviously this is because they want to track us all the time, but its stupid
- i think this is an equity issue too! i have a laptop so i can afford to not be tracked 24/7 but what about the people who do not have that access. they should not be forced to always have eyes on them. sometimes issues do not need school intervention.
new software
- blocksi- software change
- concerns: only info i can find is on their own blog
- ability to track and monitor registered chromebook screens 365 days a year, 24/7 with AI scanners. when a phrase or image is flagged on a student's google account as a "threat," there are screenshots taken before and after the flag to give admin context for the flag. was not told of this. many students are not aware. source 1 source 2
- by default you can only see the extension when you click on the extension menu proper. while hipara is visible by default on the toolbar menu, blocksi is not. when you click on the extension, there is no information given as to what this extension is.
