⠀⠀ 🍂 .. OCTOBER — OCTOBRE
" My beloved October has returned—with its brilliant colors, cool temperatures and sunny, cloudless, azure skies, and I must enjoy it before it escapes for another year. ” – Peggy Toney Horton, Somewhere in Heaven My Mother Is Smiling
october, we're really getting into the swing of it now aren't we? time for all the trees but evergreen to turn, the insects to get drunk on the fallen psychedelics, and... pumpkin everything. no, really, we get a lot of pumpkins for our Halloween decor this time of year. There's been years where we've carved over 50 pumpkins, and our house smelt like a cooked gourd for days. i think it's one of my favourite smells.

“ October was always the least dependable of months… full of ghosts and shadows. ” – Joy Fielding
⠀⠀✧ samhain (SAH-win / SOW-in) — oct. 31
october is the month of the pagan holiday samhain (SAH-win / SOW-in). the name comes from Old Irish, translating directly into "summer's end". it's the third harvest festival after mabon, the last harvest season of the year. while Halloween falls on the same day, it's actually a very different holiday, though there are similarities. samhain is the most important holiday in the Wheel of the year! it's known as the "witch's New Year", honouring ancestors and the thinning veil between the physical and spiritual plane. it's a powerful time for divination.
