There had been numerous times where Grayson had a one on one conversation with Cassian. She remembers one particularly cold night outside of the Piltover Plaza Ball, where she caught a lonely little boy sitting on the stairs with tears streaming down his face. When she asked the kid what was wrong, he told her that he lost his brother in the crowd and was too nervous to ask his dad where he had gone, and headed outside in defeat.

She easily identified the kid as the youngest Ballad boy, and helped him up. She patted him on the back, and tried to make him feel better by asking him about his brother. What did he look like, what was he like? But she already knew Briar, knew well about him, as the best performer in his Cadet Academy prelims and finals.

But she couldn't bring a snotty, overwhelmed Cassian to him. So she got him talking. She found it admirable just how much Cassian admired his brother. She could see it in how he spoke; he was a good kid, with a good heart. Should this kid learn how to hold a gun, he could help a lot of people.

The last time she really spoke to Cassian was at Briar's funeral, along side 2 other officers who died that day. She saw the light of the Ballad family wither that night, or perhaps, she realized it had never been lit at all. She was never close to Cassian, or much of the Ballads to begin with, but they were a big name during her Cadet and Deputy years. A future where she passed the torch to the Ballad brothers, who could've fought for a better tomorrow, was a future which she could no longer for see.
