Jayce and Cassian's relationship with each other was probably the highlight that overtook most of their childhood memories. From the high of their new blossoming friendship, to navigating through the grief which swiftly grappled at Cassian, they had each other through all of it.
Jayce was Cassian's true, only support once Briar had passed, and for that alone, Cassian couldn't help but feel like a burden. But Jayce never saw him as one, no, they were too far in it now. They were practically blood brothers if they didn't think about how they met. Cassian was the brother Jayce never had, and wanted nothing more than to help him like family should.
Cassian was the only person who believed in Jayce, he thought. He was the only one who supported him and his dream for the longest time, even when Cassian's prospects included the enforcer badge. Once that path quickly caved in for him, and Cassian showed interest in helping Jayce out full time, the two only grew closer. By the time they had enrolled into the Academy together, it seemed like the road ahead of them was clear and gleaming with promise. Until Cassian got sent to the Cadet Academy at 20 and couldn't even give Jayce a proper goodbye. It wasn't impossible to keep in contact with him, but it was the sudden switch and contrast of it all that had rattled Cassian. He couldn't face his friend, his brother, like this. Miserably, they went for 4 years without contact, their relationship estranged and even more so tarnished once Cassian had graduated and returned home.
But for months, they continued without talking, or speaking. The understanding they once had for one another was now thrown away due to the single lingering factor which was fear, and perhaps shame. Both of them, really - neither of them took the step to speak with one another. So much so, it added to the pile of reasons for his rash goodbye, which Jayce wrote in heavy detail to his mother. Of course, before Viktor stops him, and the events of episode 3 take place where they harness the power of those stones.
Now flash forward to the follow morning, with an ecstatic and slightly anxious, but determined Jayce, running to the Ballad Manor which he could never forget the directions to. Cassian is distant, hesitant as Jayce tells him, it worked. Their math, their years of effort and determination, it all worked, and Jayce wanted Cassian to be a part of it. Again. Hence begins the rekindling of their once grand relationship, which could never be the same way it was once before, but they've gotten close. Very close.
